What do you mean by hold regular brake while working parking brake. Will this somehow let the caliper slide off ? My car is jacked up now and I’m searching videos on "how to" give me some slack in the Emergency Brake Cable

It's a good idea on that P-Brake design to take a pick and walk it around the piston between the boot so the boot doesn't twist and fold with the piston as it is screwed back in. A small bit of silicone grease in there is a good idea as well.

FYI I own an '09 Grand Caravan since brand new. If you are replacing the rear brake pads every year, the brakes are dragging. Do not replace the caliper until you check the parking brake. If it's partially applied, the cause is a parking brake cable seizing up. You will most likely need to replace the cable, not the caliper. Took me 7 years to figure that out. Even my local Dodge Dealer missed it

I needed that tool. I couldn't get the piston to move with a pair of pliers. I would have damaged that piston and the boot otherwise. Good video. It was very helpful to me.

@@adamhamann3907 sorry, if you have a vehicle like the one in this video, you can't compress the piston just by pressing on it. It's not physically possible. The brakes you worked on must have been either on the front, or on a vehicle without this type of piston. It must be rotated in.

I'm puzzled why there are threads on the middle of the tool? Does the tool "push" in any way, or does it simply turn the piston? Seems that you could simply have a supported shaft with the round drive-plate and wind the piston in. Maybe the middle threads keep the round plate in contact with the piston, but wouldn't you need to have exactly the same pitch of thread in both the tool and caliper (distance moved per turn...)?

I've used needle nose pliers and press and turn the piston in. The tool is threaded to add pressure as its turned the tool has mated surface that matches in some grooves on the piston which turns the piston head as its being pressed. I have a Fiat 500l and 2010 Grand Caravan both with this type of rear spindle type piston I don't like them but is what it is.

You're right, it does press in while turning. The threads on each part are not the same, so it requires occasional adjusting of the drive bolt. These points are covered in the video, maybe have another look! 😉

Why didn't you show the procedure for cleaning the caliper bracket abutment clip area, lubing under the abutment clips, installing the abutment clips correctly & lubing the piston face. Failing to do so can result in uneven pad wear.

The rear caliper piston needs to be rotated in but not the front, correct? And is there a way in general, to look at the piston caliper and tell if it needs to be rotated or not as it's compressed?

I purchased Duralast Gold ceramic rear brakes from Autozone. They do not come with the "little notch" on the rear side of the brake pad to slide into the piston indent. Do you happen to know why?

Why does the rotor smaller but for the same vehicle? Auto zone has two different sizes and they say it will work for either size?

Sometimes different breaking systems will use different sized rotors. But your replacement rotor needs to be the same size as the new one. I would measure your old one just so you have that info at the parts store. I have no idea why AutoZone thinks there is 2 different sizes for the rotor. Thanks for watching!
