In this video I rebuild the front forks on my 1999 Dyna SuperGlide, but the process is the same for most every Harley after 1987. #HD #HarleyDavidson #FrontFork #DIY #HowTo #Mechanic #MotorcycleMechanic

I'm in the middle of doing fork seals on my 07 Dyna and glad I watched your video. I hadn't even thought about the bushings for the bottom of the forks. One thing I learned rebuilding pumps about crush washers is you can heat them up until they just start to glow (assuming they're copper) then quench them in water. It anneals them and makes them ready to be crushed again. I just wanted to pass this along. Great videos BTW.

You now that's right I do that for my rifle brass on my reloads never thought about doing it for crush washers, thanks.

I will be at Memphis and May. I would love to hang out with you brother but I Don't have your number so I hope you read this.

Excellent! Man, you have a great collection of tools and equipment. My 2003 FLHTCI is having too much front end dive from front braking so I am looking into doing the front suspension service and git'r'dun while while the front wheel is off.

Yea mine is too I laid it down last week and I’ve noticed it’s diving hard but never changed fluid in it 09 and I’ve had it about 4 years now

Have a dyna fxdx 1999 with 41mm fork, single disc on the wheel on the left. Standard HD brake caliper will not fit the mount on the fork. most likely from a different model and can not figure out the oil capacity for refill. I am guessing wildglide. Any help would be appreciated
@DeathProofProductions10 ай бұрын
That year model came with the floating caliper, in 2000 they went to a fixed 4 piston caliper with a floating rotor. Your right if it's 41mm than it's a wide glide and it takes 12oz type E fork oil. Is the caliper your trying a 4 piston.

Im rebuilding my forks, 1988 sportster. Can't get the dampener out, the bile is a mess want to take completely apart to check and clean . Any suggestions on getting the dampener out? Thanks. Just found your channel, am subscribed now.

Have you already removed the lower slider.
@laurentruesdale408810 ай бұрын
Yes, seems to be stuck in the tube. I don't want to start hammering on it. Does the bottom " clip " that the bolt threads into come off? Thank you. Bike was sitting for about 10 years, building with my son.
@DeathProofProductions10 ай бұрын
Have you removed the the threaded cap on the top.
@laurentruesdale408810 ай бұрын
I have. I made a brass collar so I didn't have to beat on the bolt receiver. It was horribly rusted. Thank you for the help.

If you can get the spring out of the top you should be able to gently drive out the damper
@louismeyers5085 Жыл бұрын
The manual say’s to put the tapered end in the tube first, does that mean the more compressed coils of the spring goes towards the bottom?

Yes.

Hi Dave, I have rebuild the fxdx and doing the shake down. On a bumpy road the front suspension, somewhere inside the forks, something is banging there. Have rebuild the forks completely and put new seals and oil in it. Should I fill more oil in it? The forks are 41mm, non adjustable.

What color was the old bushing when you removed them.
@michaelslawinski64492 ай бұрын
@@DeathProofProductions almost worn, similar to yours in the video. ordered progressive springs already.hope This will help solve the issue.
@DeathProofProductions2 ай бұрын
Thats a good move. It's possible the sliders are worn out but yeah try the spring's first.
@michaelslawinski64492 ай бұрын
@@DeathProofProductions everything inside the fork is new except for the spring. I understand the lower short spring will stay in there and only the main spring gets replaced so no need to disassemble the whole thing. I would do it on the bike , just loosen the top fork bolts and replace the springs
@DeathProofProductions2 ай бұрын
Yeah it's easy.

How deep does the upper bushing go into the tube?

Deep enough to get the seal retaining ring in the groove

@dougg5027 Жыл бұрын
This may be a dumb question but to change the seals do you need to disassemble the whole form or can you replace the forks without removing it from the bike just by removing the lower?
@DeathProofProductions Жыл бұрын
You can do it with just taking slider off

What are this 2 holes next to bushing in bottom of tubes for? On one of my tubes these holes are open on other closed is that normal tubes are brand new.
@DeathProofProductions Жыл бұрын
I never knew exactly what they were for but there supposed to be on both. What brand did you buy.
