I’ve been working on truck for 26 yrs now and have yet to come across a king pin that was quick and easy.

lol I know right. You would think that by now someone would have come up with a cure for that. Heat and beat. Always my experience

Ya well I just spent 3 hours removing a seized wedge pin and now I'm at about 3 hours in on removing a seized king pin so pointing at things don't make them come apart.

After replacing the king pins is it normal to have a stiff steering wheel for the first 1000 miles. It does not straighten itself out after curves

It is not. Too tight.

If I was to guess I would say you got too many shims in there. Maybe take one out and see how it is.

So, what happens when the king pin is seized in the axle? I get what you are trying to do here, but a king pin job is a lot more involved than removing a few bolts tapping the old one out and putting the new one in. It does happen, but not very often. Let's not always look at the best case scenario and explained what usually happens when you have to cut the steering knuckle of of the axle and drill the pin and torch it out of the axle. Let's be real for a minute.

Petroleum Valley Cycle Center true there. You don’t need to explain that to me. Had to lift a press into the wheel arch of a coach once. This just saves the time of disassembling the whole brake drum brake and hub assembly. We had a crane on the back of a service truck. Having the top cap with a hole in it for the punch to go through allows a certain amount of beating. If that doesn’t go then you are right it’s back to heat and beat. I hate even the thought and suspense of is this going to be ok or is it going to be a crap day. Thanks for commenting sir.
