How-to Replace Shift / Shifter Lever 1997 Ford F250

TIP ... before pulling the wire from under the dash ...... tape a pull wire or string to it ..... then it's much easier to pull the new wire back down the column ... Great video!

Great video. Thankfully on the later models, they put a pigtail right on the top of the column for the OD override wires.

I did this for my 1994 F250 (the plastic knob at the end of the shifter lever broke). Very helpful video. I didn't have to undo as much of the dash plastic since the wires plugged in very close to the shifter location.

Very good Video. May I suggest attaching a "Pull wire" to the plug before you remove the shifter OD wiring harness, then you can use the wire to pull the new one back in.

Hey Thanks so much for the video. Frustrating to watch at times but changing out my shifter was easy after viewing. 1999 F150, slightly different bolt alignment but very helpful!

it's much easier to just take the 3 screws out of the bottom column panel to remove the key switch that way you can see that ball were you need to press it in for any one reading this make sure key is in the on position like said in the video

Your upper shift tube bushing has slid out and needs to be replaced. If you would have removed three of the 4 nuts holding your steering column in place and left the left rear loosely in place you would have had plenty of space to reroute the wire and loosen 6 of the torches #30 screws and changed your bushings while you were in there.

I have a 1994 F-250 automatic 4 wheel drive/7.5 liter 460.3 speed overdrive on shift lever. Mine broke and I've done everything pretty much that I saw on the video. But the arm on the tube, I can't figure out how to mount. The bracket that that arm fits into to shift the gears. My book only shows the floor shifter not the column shifter. Also the videos truck was not 4 wheel drive and is a little different than mine. Mine only has 6 bolts instead of 8

How about putting this shifter handle to a 1990 Ford f-350 4x4 dually diesel automatic so we can put the O/D switch on the shifter instead of the side of dash?????anybody's response please

This is hugely complicated, more so than heart surgery and some brain surgery. How the hell did you learn this? Also, manhandling at the garage causes so many problems. The garage mechanic busted many of these parts, including the plastic shift knob, in my Ford Expedition. Not everyone wants or can afford "new."

I hate this stuff I have four panels and covers off waiting to get a part the cable clip white that screws on is broken .two dealers very to busy for me and we're gonna call me back on parts. it is hot working under dash in the AZ sun.

This looks nothing like a 1997 f250. Looks like 1998 or newer.

I've just learned that my 1997 F250 is actually a 1996 model year. I've been told that the reason is because there was a styling change. I generally look for 1996 parts.
