Good video, I just did this today in my 2005 S430. I used a flat head screwdriver and carefully applied pressure on the coil until I heard a slight click when putting it back on. I gapped my plugs to .43. Unfortunately I did not have air tools or a garage while doing this. LOL....

REALLY LIKED the video and VALUABLE information! Only thing additional might be to do what my Mercedes shop does and that is to power wash engine before work, I take it to Hans Richter at Texas-German Autohaus in Houston if too much for me or don't have the time and they wash and even vacuum it --even if they just give me an estimate!!!. ALSO Mercedessource says in his Y-vid to use air to blow out around the spark plug before remove to avoid debris from getting in cylinder...both seems like great ideas and even more important to wash first when working on my old diesels! I am getting the spark plug tool because I already have too many tools and one more won't matter! I made the Ford-Navistar tool for the injector pump removal!

clean up mass air flow sensor first, and if it still doesn't help, then check crankshaft position sensor.

Thanks mate! Good video! And very useful :-) I have an S430 same model. I fix all I can by myself... I had now a stupid task the other day... I had for sale an S320 and the boot lock got jammed. Central lock did not work... and so I had to open the boot. The key blade went in but the lock got jammed. Key turned but did not click... So I was so desperate almost broke the right tail lights to get into the boot when I forced a bit more the lock and help with two friends of mine we finally managed!

could you post the bend angles in the wrench? I got a benz for a couple of bucks on craigslist thats on its last legs and dont wanna spend anything on it until Im sure its gonna live at least a few months. ... I have a few 17mm wrenchs around and would like to try heating and bending them with a torch and anvil.

@djrafa1 Yeah that tool helps a ton. I wouldn't want to do this job without it. The plug boot seems to melt onto the plug making it a pain to take off. This tool give you the leverage to take them off.

on the coil packs everyone i have a 2002 benz s 430 it is t25 bolt not t30 as mention in the video you do need the special benz tool with 45 degree angle 3/8 extension and silicone spray for spark plug wire a small amount of anti seize on new plugs your good to go

I bought spark plug wires from advance auto parts(car quest).part #35-8022.They told me since they are after market it didn't matter how I hooked the wires up!? Since my Mercedes 2000 S500 5.0 shows L and R and their's don't, will it really make a difference?Thanks so much for your video.

@LUSRIOS Yes I do. It's a lot of work to do. I would hate for you to get done and a week or month later find out one or two of the wires have gone bad. Which they like to fail. Spark plug seal? Usually there is a crush washer on the spark plug.

I'm thinking about doing this on my 03 S500. The dealer quoted me a price of about $1200. I'll buy the special wrench to help ease the pain. Now the only question I have is how do I measure newton meters. You mentioned tighten to 25 newton meters. Is there a special wrench that I need in order to do this? By the way this is an excellent tutorial.

Yes, you need a "torque wrench," which is a tool that gives you an indication when a bolt or nut is tightened to the correct tightness. You might be able to rent one at an auto parts store or buy one at Home Depot or Sears for $50 - $75.

I can see why it costs so much to get a S500 service here in Australia. I thought it was one spark plug per cylinder. I didn't think Mercedes Benz used two spark plugs per cylinder on the motor.

My mother had a 300E Mercedes Benz that they brought new here in Australia that they took delivery at the factory in Dusuldorf in Germaney and it had a timing belt and with a twincam 24 valve 3.0 liter straight 6 motor that redline at 7000 rpm

So I assume that these are the steps necessary to change the coilpacks as well? I have some problems with my S500, and I'm starting to suspect that it could be coils or sparkplug related. The shop just changed the accelerator pedal, so I'm going to see if that works tomorrow, but I might try this fix myself if it doesn't help. Anyway, my car has been shaking violently when idling, and in the last week it has started shaking and stuttering while driving, before it flat out dies

this not good to do 1 you dont have the air tools to do this that has to me torque to the required torque to install the spark plugs 2 if you strip a thread your in serious trouble meaning the strip metal gets in the engine its not worth doing this considering the tools needed and the risk of a strip thread dont do it
