How to replace Spindle Bearings on a Warco Milling Machine

Well done!. You made that look easy. The spring hopefully will just slide back over the screw and click into place. Don't forget to pretension it. Please start using a piece of board to cushion the shaft from the table, the next time you try and fit a tool in it might not go!. Once again well done. Not a hammer in sight😁.

Hi Fred great bit of advise with the wood will have to get a bit of ply cut to the table size. Protect the spindle and table win win.

Interesting video. It’s worth putting a sheet of wood on the table to protect it in case you do drop anything accidentally.

New bearings. Good Man. When I was at the Railway (might have told you this already, Sorry) We had some coaches come through that the SKF (very good bearings by the way) were only lasting about 100,000 miles, that is nothing for a train, turns out one of the vehicle builders was doing a bit of extra work on each carriage and could not be bothered to put an Earth strap on when they were welding, so he earthed through the bearings and put a pip on each one. Ha Ha. Should not need to re-grease all the time, you don't on the back wheels of your car, just put loads of High Melt Point grease in (properly in) the new bearing. On my car bearings [before I got old] I used to do 0.0007" endfloat, no idea what a mill should be.

That’s a great bit of investigation to find that as the fault. Hopefully this set of SKF bearings will last a long time.

Thanks video ..different situation had put head on a diet ...lighten it so be able to lift it had to break down machine to parts reassembled table and colum but head is a heavy bit so now can knock off some more weight thanks

At work we have a Grizzly G0755 mill and I've been having an issue with the spindle heating up. It looks like I'm going to have to replace the bearings and your video has really helped me. I had no idea how to go about taking the quill and spindle out, but your mill has the same kind of design as ours. I was having a lot of anxiety about this fix but you've helped ease it.

Can't leave you alone for five minutes! I bet you took your pets apart before you bought a milling machine. now your next challenge should you wish to take it is to add a " drift car" steering wheel in place of the handles on the quill feed makes it nicer to pull down with a better feel, and dont do as I did let go of the quill lock and the handles spun air the wheel of fortune clobbering me and giving me a loverly shiner. nice job Joe keep at it and have a think about a spindle lock.

Yeah the handle has nearly caught me out a couple of times. A little steering wheel would look pretty cool and probably give a good feel when feeding.

@@MachiningwithJoe or get a bus steering wheel so you can really hang on to it and get blunt drills through HSS! :)

@@graveneyshipright as a observation I would think twice about fitting a steering wheel arrangement here. I frequently need to take off individual handles when working with the quill close to the table (e.g. when using small end mills in a collett chuck) to stop them fouling with whatever may be clamped to the table.
