Keep in mind that dealers are also buy Subaru OEM parts, which are a lot more than brake parts that you can find online for OEM quality parts. They also charge for rotors and pads, which the guy in this video is just pad slapping, which not only will almost no mechanics ever do but it's never recommended to do this. So for rotors, pads, and brake hardware, that's $648 MSRP from Subaru's part store.

@@bijdikh8516 no thats just it.... the number i gave was just for replacing brake pads ALONE.... if i was to have rotors added in, it wouldve been closer to $2000. as for the pads... its kinda stupid. it really isnt something you need OEM quality on. pads are pads they all have one job to do and thats just to be applied to the rotor and stop your car. as long as they dont come apart and are designed to fit your car, any pads will work its not rocket science. just basic wear and tear items to be replaced. not something you should have to blow an entire months rent to have someone do for you. i ended up just buying the pads at an auto store for $90 and doing the damn things myself. 40,000 miles later and they're still doing just fine.

They only charge what they do because people are willing to pay it that’s just how the free market works. Don’t be bitter though the more they wanna charge the more you’re saving by doing it yourself.

On the crosstrek, the wear indicator is supposed to be on the bottom.

Thanks! The wheels are by F44 Offroad (CM102) The tires I have on are Toyo 235/75R15, but they do rub when I'm braking while turning. So if your Crosstrek is NOT lifted, I wouldn't recommend going larger than 215/75R15 . But if you are lifted, then you could get away with 225/75R15.

For the rear (only?) pads ONE of the four pads is different. There’s a tang/hook or tab sticking out of the backing plate. I didn’t install mine and then watched your video. It’s in fast motion for the pads, but it looks like that weird pad goes on the inside of the pass side rear? I didn’t take off the pass side only the drivers side. I thought my set was a mistake. But I think your set has the same thing. I really like the straight to the point way you did this video. Not a lot of 💩 to have to get through. Im going to take off the rear pass side and see if that one pad has that strange hook on it.

@@paynespaulding3621 Mine is the dark grey with orange stitching on the interior. I'm going with VHT Grey primer, VHT Burnt Copper, and VHT clear coat. The burnt copper is a metallic which I think will go well with the metallic grey body. VHT has Chevy Engine Orange and Hemi Orange - one of those may be a good match for you.

Nice to know this isn't one of them high dollar Japanese cars that has you buying different tools for every component. Although I never put nothing on the brake pads before I will now or I should say have one of my five boys use it. as I supervise and & watch. Although I will not use the piston tool you used I would rather use a pair of C-clamp vise grips turning it in a little each time you squeeze it shut or a small C clamp with the brake pad over the cylinder save me some money. Now Three of the five hit me up at least every couple months the other two every now and then although they all pay me back or bring back what they barrow none of them want to piss the bank of Dad off besides I'm retired.
