Who else misses removable batteries ?
@DemocracyDecoded
@DemocracyDecoded 6 жыл бұрын
Hardy Marty I miss them yeah but I also like the water resistance, it's hard to have both, actually it's only been done once with the galaxy s5, and it sucked cause people swap batteries and that damages the back cover more and more each time. It can be done better. If you go see the old HTC amaze, that phone had a back cover with a switch, you hold the switch and lift the cover up, I think if they follow that method, they can make a water resistant phone with removable battery, I thought of this long ago but never actually seen it done yet, very surprised.

I do. I won't be buying a note 8 because of how difficulty it is to replace the battery. Probably gonna get a v20. A 2 year old phone that can last as long as I want is better than annew phone that will only last 2 years.

The one thing you forgot to mention is that in order to create a good seal you should return it to the hot plate after you get the back case back on, and press it again second time while the adhesive is softened. It will form a much better seal than the cold adhesive.

I've been the tinker person in our family all my life so I developed a great sense of tinkering. Now I replace everything even SOME of the broken displays. I was given the Note 8 as a gift and immediately started worrying about the future battery replacement if necessary. Now I don't need to worry all those years thanks to your video. Was in your boat. Now have a note 8 myself... Don't worry about destroying that back cover. Just get it off and buy a new one for like $8-9 dollars. Now that the cover is off if you can follow simple instructions you can again replace everything yourself. Just don't put that back cover back on with adhesive and let your phone case / protector hold the back on and you now have an upgraded note 4 with easily removable back. I've replaced my charging port, battery, headphone jack. Pretty easy now really.

OMG! You have to disassemble the phone just to replace the battery!!! Something is definitely getting damaged during this process. So ridiculous to design phones this way! I miss the days when you could just pop out the back cover and push in the new battery. We've taken 10 steps back in design and development of these phones.

Well, the way it is now, most people get new phones frequently. Some times more than once a year! But yep..I, too, wish we had the simplicity from before.

They do it so you pay for the replacement through the store and not through a third party retailer. It's a tool to keep profits going even when you don't choose to upgrade the phone. Smart for the retailer. Not great for the consumer.

I would also mention a sealed battery is required to make a phone ip67 rated...it's not solely to make you replace the whole phone. People wanted water resistant phones well this is part of what it takes to do that...

Hotplate! What a great idea and a wonderful video, very clear! My only criticism is you used a metal tool to remove the fingerprint sensor cable. That's risky if you slip. I would definitely use a plastic tool on everything inside the phone, unless you are removing screws. My advice is always use a plastic tool to disconnect cables.

Thanks for the video. I followed every step but I didn't have a heat plate so I put my phone on the radiator for five minutes instead and that did the trick. And a word of warning - you should be careful to not pierce the battery when removing it because it started burning and it looked like it was going to explode. I bought a replacement battery from eBay for not more than £10 (including the tools) which saved me quite a bit. I found it easier to use a credit card rather than the tool that they gave us to remove the back casing after it budged a bit.

Not stupid -- to the company's bottom line. And that's why we have this. Make the replacement process difficult and expensive to make the buyer seriously considering simply buying a new model and you have... well, the iPhone's success shows you what you have. Samsung (and others) are merely imitating marketing success here. If the real issue for not using replaceables was 'waterproofing', I find the whole concept that a company that can design something as sophisticated as these phones could not engineer away around that flimsy limitation. And as others have said, the fact that in the event of an accidental submersion, if you can take off the phone back, remove the battery and apply drying out remediation may actually give a real world advantage to removable battery models.

Quick suggestion to people that actually want to fix replace the battery themselves. Just make sure you pay attention to the careful process of removing the back cover because it's the most crucial part and make sure you buy a high quality or OEM battery.

If you don't have a really good suction cup, you might as well just use a thin knife to get that glass panel off or you'll be trying to safely get the glass off for hours. Might as well buy a replacement glass panel for $9 off eBay to save you the frustration. Or buy a better suction cup

This video will be handy in the future when people want to do color swaps. In a couple of months all the color backs will be available and someone that wanted deep blue in the beginning but couldn't get it in the US will be taking the back off to do the swap. I just wouldn't trust that it is still fully water resistant. Once that seal is broken it will never be the same again. Great thought getting the video out early and cornering the revenue stream and search results on it!

I went to subscribe but looks like I already am. I like at least knowing how it is done even if I take it in. Someone told me at the phone store that when your battery dies you buy a new phone. Research shows that not to be true and if you shop around you can find a place to replace the battery for not much over the cost of the battery. I like to keep my tech around mostly because I find trying to keep up with how much it changes like learning a whole new language but am now there with an Android phone and laptop. I have used KZbin over the years to learn the "how to" of many of the different repairs/replacements and your video will prove useful - seemed that you covered all the steps. Some miss a step or two leaving the person to figure it out after you have a mess around you with the job half done. I imagine many phones to have a similar process? Thank you.

I enjoyed your video but try the opposite side of the thermal scale I use liquid nitrogen spray bottles to take the back glass it makes the glue brittle I have been able to pull the glass off just by pulling on it didn't expect for it to come off easy which resulted in a torn fingerprint scanner ribbon now I know liquid nitrogen is boss but if u cool the glass to fast it can break I just let the phone warm in a ziplock bag with the phone in napkins to make sure the moisture doesn't damage from the freezer I have no luck with a heat gun but ur the first I saw use a heat plate kudos brotha

I know that this video is how to change the battery in a Samsung Galaxy Note 8… well supposed to be. I got the back off my phone and it looks similar to mine. But there are a shit ton of screws in mine and the battery connection is some where under a large plastic plate. I doubt that the phone is a Samsung Galaxy Note 8. There were a few things that I could have cared less to know and a lot of things that I would have liked to know. Another person asks Who else misses removable batteries… I know that we all loved the ease of popping a plate off and changing it. They definitely need to bring that stuff back. Also videos on how to work on the exact thing that you are trying to fix. I know I am an ass and I have been getting help for that. However it’s just as useful as some KZbin videos.

Be REALLY carefull when removing the back cover, not only to not damage the cable, but also, the entire back cover is incredibly brittle, being made of some kinda glass, I rushed, didn't heat enough, applied too much pressure to pry the thing open and cracked the back of the case. Still works, but looks like crap now.

6 minutes in and the guy is still trying to get the back off. What was Samsung thinking?

Mine died and the battery puffed, prying off the back anyway.. So I used the opportunity to change it. However I don't get into hot plate repairs usually.

Is it still waterproof even if the adhesive for the glass back panel is reused and no longer "factory sealed and perfect?"

Just pulled my note 8 apart to swap in a battery. Strait forward and as detailed as necessary. A preliminary warning for the finger print scanner would be necessary for anyone doing this.

This is service work and i wonder if they do the same 😆 but now we see how small this battery is for that big screen and price 😢.3300 mAh so what charging twice per day ?😀

disable apps that you dont use and other services that you dont use. itll last longer.. also samsung displays are a bit too vivid so tone down brightness a bit and if possible, minimal vibration and use apps 1 or 2 at a time in the background.

they could have made a little bigger battery

no, because of the place that the S-pen takes, the battery will obviously be a little smaller, compared to the S8, who has no S-pen

David Young the battery lasts twice as long as the iPhone 7 plus and 30% longer than the s8 plus. The battery is fine.

None of this would be necessary on a Note 4, where you can replace the battery in seconds. I am keeping my Note 4 for as long as it works, and when it breaks I shall try to get another one. It's now on its third battery. There is NO WAY that I will buy a stupid Note 8 that is designed to die in 18 months.

Ralph Hancock I'm keeping my note 4 and my note edge but this note 8 is a much more Superior device by far. I love my note 8. I have a battery case so I'm good. But I don't need it right now because the battery life on this phone is great

Yeah thats why i kept my note 4 for so long as well. unfortunately its in the last stages of a terminal case of the ssd flash memory issue. No amount of wakelock or new batteries can save it now, so im forced to finally upgrade. Pisses me off just watching this video knowing how incredibly fucking easy it is to have a removable battery. I'm someone who built my own PC so im not against tinkering with electronics but there is just absolutely no reason for this at all.
