Thanks for posting this. Not going to do the work myself, but had an issue with my 2015 JGC for a while now and the tech finally found it. They are ordering new diff bushings, so now I know exactly what the part is and what they need to do to get the vehicle back in shape - thus, justifying the cost. Fun stuff.

I didn’t show people in the video, That when you have a lift you do not need to remove the front differential even though it is a real pain in the ass to replace with the differential in there and it’s rather simple to remove the differential but it can be done when somebody has a lift I felt like this way was the easiest way for people to do it in their driveway

Good video. Getting ready to do this on my 05 GC this weekend. Tired of it clunking when going in and out of park. I was planning on removing BOTH CV axles ... think I'll try your way first. If I can avoid taking both sides apart that would be awesome. I work on cars almost everyday, but I've never done this particular job. Gotta love youtube! Thanks, Clay.

OK in this video I show you how to remove the whole differential it may be simpler just to remove the bolts that are holding the differential open the vehicle and moving the differential to a position that allows you to get to the bushing this will save you time I don’t know if it’s a job I would tackle If I was an amateur getting that bushing out and getting it back in is much harder than getting the differential out But remember that if anybody else can do it you can do it to

I just did this job without having to split the suspension down and without removing the front diff/axle from my WK. Same thing, top bushing was wrecked. If you put the car up on ramps, support the diff on a jack, undo the propshaft, undo the front, side and top bush bolts, then slowly lower the diff onto axle stands, from where you can wiggle it forward and then rotate the rear of the diff down, giving clear access to the top bush mount. Then use a fine hacksaw blade to cut two parallel slices into the bush casing, prise the "slice" out then the whole bush casing easily pulls out with pliers, even by hand. Then to simplify installation, if you don't have a hydraulic press, make a single 0.5mm cut into the new bush casing, then it can compress a bit and will go in so much easier and is still pretty tight in there. Check out my rather amateur vid showing some of what i did. This great vid here from "the clay way" inspired me to attempt this job, and i thought of a few ways to do this on the car and make it easier. Good luck with yours folks!

All went as planned ... sure enough that top bushing on driver's side was gone ... I did end up going ahead and taking out the passenger CV too. Used a six-foot ladder under my lift, and lowered the JEEP until the weight was just balanced on the ladder ... I don't have a tall tranny stand. lol. My buddy then lifted the JEEP while I held the diff, then we both set it on the ground. Used the air sawzall and a chisel ... then a ball joint press to put the new ones in. Took about 4 hours. She drives sooo much better now without that slopping diff throwing off the whole front end geometry. Again, great video.

I was doing a lot of research on mine and I assume the bushings go bad in these year vehicles. I bought mine in july and I absolutely love it. It started making a noise and it's hard to describe but it will do it randomly sometimes and for awhile it would do it constantly but it was mostly when going slow and I've done research and found to be the bushing. I was just wondering if it does make a like clacking noise I guess that's how to describe it. We went into our close part store and they didn't have it and said we would have to order it online. Is there any online part stores you order from? I just really don't want to be scammed out of money or get the wrong one and wanting to make sure that is what is wrong with it

My 2006 Jeep GC has the knock when putting in reverse to drive or drive to reverse and I noticed the differential tilting. I could barely get a good view of it in my driveway, but the top bushing appears to be bad. I don’t have the tools to do this so will have to pay. I think I’ll have all the bushings replaced while they are under there. How many are there in total? Thanks for the great video!

Hi Mate, Got a questions for you, Just got back from our trip to northern Australia, on the way home i went over a small speed hump in a supermarket and developed an instant heavy clicking from the front diff area, this heavy clicking is in straight line driving and only below 40 mph only on deceleration not on acceleration, feel like an intermittent binding of some sort or a clutch pack locking in and out violently with the right hand wheel giving a little skid if on dirt or small stones. This developed into a real loud banging sound when decelerating (not braking) that felt like the whole diff was jumping up and down, on inspection it appeared that the front diff was dropped on the right hand side, i went to a car parh and did some tight circles round and round left and right and it disappeared, my front diff bushes are shot to hell and are being replaced, could the diff bushes have caused this to happen, what are your thoughts.
@AerialFidelity
@AerialFidelity 4 жыл бұрын
if there is no vibration, do you thing that top bushing is still bad? I have bad u joint's and pancake joint on my front driveline and the shop is telling me that bushing is probably bad but there is no vibration. They think the bushing caused the u joints and the pancake joint to go out. Just trying to decide if I actually need to pull out my diff and change that bushing or if I should just rebuild the driveline and see if it fixes it
@sharpcarco
@sharpcarco 4 жыл бұрын
Well with the vehicle on the lift and the foot on the break you should be able to tell if the differential is moving too much. If they are recommending you replace it , hopefully there a good place and not trying to sell your parts you don’t need. Just like anything you could get a second opinion. I was just saying in the video that the vibration is a symptom. I would suppose it’s possible that it would not have that symptom. Wish I could be more definitive for you but hopefully that helps you make an informed decision

@@sharpcarco thanks for the response. I think the shop is probably the most honest shop I've ever done business with. Still I can't afford to pay them to do the work so your reply will help me in diagnosing the bushing myself. Thanks again!

Well I would highly recommend getting one of them from a junkyard, used they’re not that expensive. That will save you hundreds of dollars actually the rear differential. In a lot of ways is simpler than the front one.

I could get a front differential out in about 30 minutes but I think average would be approximately an hour and a half to two hours for most people and I’m sure once someone got it out that has never done it before could get it in much quicker it’s actually a very simple front differential to remove. The bushing on the other hand can be a real pain in the butt if you’re doing the bushing. And that just takes patience and ingenuity I hope that reply is helpful for you good luck let me know if you need any help have a great day god bless

You do not have to pull the axle shafts out and go through that trouble just pull the drive shaft all the mounts and carefully lower it with a jack the top mount should drop to the ground where you can then hammer the old one out and press the new ones in way easier than pulling it all the way out
