Thank you for a helpful video! My VW Polo 2011 1.6 TDI did not start after replacing the fuel filter, following another video here on KZbin that didn’t inform about the priming procedure. Thanks to the clarification in this video my car does now work again. I did the priming without the inlet hose mounted, opposite to what is said at 2:36.

When you have fitted the new filter attach the inlet hose. Get an old plastic drinks bottle and put the neck over the outlet on the filter Get in the car and turn the ignition key not to start it but enough for the fuel pump to prime. Say on for 3 seconds off for 3 seconds. You may need to do this half a dozen times or so. Eventually you will see fresh diesel squirting into the drinks bottle Remove the bottle and Attach the outlet hose. Do the prime thing with the ignition key a couple of times then attempt to start. No need to buy vacuum or priming pumps.

I have been doing my own annual service on my Polo 1.4TDI (2008) for over 10 years. I always change the fuel filter, have never primed after exchanging the units and the engine starts every time. I actually recall asking VW service dept if I needed to prime .. that was way back... circa 2011 and they said, not necessary so I never have.

sometimes air bubbles can create starting issues .it wont take the ignition if the fuel line has bubbles

Interesting but I've been advised by a VW forum for the mk5 Polo TDI, both pumps, tank and engine, have to be operated to bleed the fuel lines after a fuel filter change. I have a 2011 Blue Motion model and I've been told if the line is not properly bled, severe damage could result from lack of diesel in the injector equipment of a CR engine - mine is the CFWA.

Ok, done everything the vídeo shows, EVERY, had a huge problem after the prime, the engine didnt start after many trys, the problem was air inside the fuel line, in the vídeo they dont talk about this, i had to bleed the line to get the air out, its a very frustating thing to do, i dont recomend doing this at your home, take your Car to a professional insted. You will end up with a dead Battery and spending more money than you think. Sorry for my English.

you shoud not attach the fuel line when you fill up the filter because excess air gonna get pumped lol. maybe this was the mistake as you see at 2:36 ot says to connect inlet hose, you should not.

@@levente4424 what if i attach the primer pump to the inlet hose, shouldnt that draw fuel from the fuel tank? and once its full/starts leaking on the other side of the pump i complete the job?!

@@vlatkomafija that is how workshops do, the connect inlet correctly and then just turn the key to ignition on position, without starting engine, 3-4 times, and the fuel starts coming from outlet, then they connect the outlet pipe and do 2 times again ignition on, then start the egine.
