How to Replace the Driven Unit in a CVT Transmission of a Riding Mower

The next repair that we're going to look at is loss of drive -- and we've traced the problem to the driven unit. So we're going to replace the Driven Unit. The Driven Unit comes in a kit. It has the cover, the ramp, the base and the cover. It also comes with the spring, a new nut and washer, and 3 new screws. To begin, we have to take off the drive unit. We do that with a T-25 Torx driver. Remove the 4 screws. Next, we have 3 T-20 screws on the cover. To remove the pin we have to relieve the spring pressure by pressing down. The pin will slide out. Next, we reuse the old pin and the tool from General Transmissions www.searspartsdirect.com/prod... . We're going to remove the nut. This is held in place at 65 ft-lbs. Remove the nut and the washer. Remove the cover. Take care not to loose the ball bearings. Remove the spring. When reassembling, we're going to use the new parts from the kit. Start with the spring. We reuse the ball bearings. We're going to install the new cover, then new washer and new nut. For this operation we're going to use the old pin. Use the tool from General Transmissions. Torque the nut to 65 ft-lbs. Discard the old pin. Install the ramp from the kit, the new spring from the kit, and the new pin from the kit. To install the pin we have to relieve the spring pressure. Then reinstall the cover. Next, we install the belt and the drive kit, making sure that we have the belt keeper to the outside and the speed screw to the outside. Then we're going to install the T-25 bolts using blue Loctite and 2.5 ft-lbs. of torque. And the repair is finished.

I don't see anything wrong with the old driven unit. Is it because the pulley surface became too slippery for the belt to bite?
