How many miles were on the car when this video was made?
@alexanderstickler77622 ай бұрын
Great video. Would add the following note. On the threaded metal ring, there is a small hole and it denotes where the thread starts. If you position the hole slightly counterclockwise to the toothed plastic edge of the filter assembly, it will be in the right place to engage the thread. It is one full thread, so you want to spin the ring one full turn clockwise. The ring also has a stop on it so that it can't be over-tightened. If you turn (and tap with screwdriver/hammer, if needed) until the hole ends up in the same place as where you started, you will feel that point where it stops. Also, safety glasses a good idea.

Okay so I realize I have all the tools I need to replace the fuel filter in my car. I'm going to save myself some money by doing that. I wont do my own spark plugs and ignition coils just yet. But I can totally do my own fuel filter. I think I can also do the cabin filter. I don't know where the air filter is in the car but if I figure it out, I'm changing it too. I'm kind of happy I skipped doing my nails this week :) Thank you so much for this video. My 2010 R56 is my first car and I'm learning so much about cars and how many headaches they bring. New brakes came with a new caliper because the rear brakes were never changed. He only had 35k miles when I got him, and I'm 100% sure he never had a tune up. So tune up is next with full service just because I want it to run without giving me any more headaches. I want to do as much as I can on my own just so I can learn more about how the car works.

Beware, even after the car has set overnight, when taking off the fuel line it will sqirt out with a lot of pressure. Got me in the face and eyes. Also, it wasn't clear on how to install the new outside filter housing "large blue one " gasket. You must first install that and then push the housing down on to it. It will never work putting it on the housing first. The sticker means the filter has never been changed. Dont really have to put a Mark on the spin cape. It will go on and just make it snug..Thanks for the video.

For anyone struggling to seat the thick blue tank seal, instead of leaving it on the fuel filter housing, attach it to the top of the tank instead where it needs to go, then slide the housing through it and tighten it down. Use a little grease if you need to. You can risk pinching the seal if you try to force it on with the housing.

Had you pressed the Schrader valve pin on the fuel rail, you wouldn't have had the pressure in the fuel line, subsequently avoiding the issue of spraying fuel about the interior whilst popping the pipe off... The Schrader valve (identical to a tyre valve, which is also a Schrader valve) is at the rear of the camshaft cover, on the left hand end of the engine.

A wet rag and some soap, probably. Mine was caked with with road dirt (we have a lot of dirt roads in our area) that had found its way to the top side of the tank. There's not likely to be any actual grease stuff that can't be wiped away with a rag. The main thing is you want the area clean to avoid getting dirt and debris into the seal, the tank, and the filter.

Well, I bought a fuel filter, popped off the backseat and unscrewed the lid behind the passenger seat only to find a plastic sheet covering the hole underneath the plate, there is no servicable fuel filter in european mini coopers apparantly, maybe in the cooper S, but not in the base cooper. Found out more people have had the same surprise as me. On the other side is the fuel pump, and there is no exchangeable fuel filter in that, I guess you have to replace the whole fuel pump if you get a clogged fuel supply.... The only filter is the small pad on the fuel pump located under the left passenger rear seat (it looks like a Senseo Coffee pad ). You can only clean this pad with brake cleaner or ... replace the entire pump. On Diesel version, the filter is under the body on the left side of the car.🙂

Your fuel level sender is probably caught on something, pull it back out and make sure to install it correctly

Squeezing thoes green tabs with a thin zip tie might be easier

That’s a good idea! I’ll try that next time

Well that’s a stupid place for a fuel filter. Also is there a pump on that hanger as well?
@alexanderstickler77622 ай бұрын
No. The low pressure pump is under the other hatch.

Great video. I have the kit sitting in my garage. Just gotta get around to actually doing it.

It’s pretty easy, you only need a few tools 👌

@@ProjectMini Finally got around to changing the fuel filter this morning. It was very easy with the help of your video. The hardest part for me was getting the top off the filter housing. Also had a little hiccup with seating the new blue gasket correctly. I had to watch a little further in your video when you explained the black gasket sits in the big groove of the blue gasket.

I’m glad it worked out for you! None of the videos i watched explain how the gasket seats so i made sure i did

I followed this, my car didn’t start … now what to do? 😟😟

You're not getting the fuel pressure up to pump the fuel due to a leak. Did you remember to put the large black o-ring back on? In the future it's probably better to ask for advice in one of the facebook groups linked in the description of the video.

@@interiorocean5750 the first kit that I installed was from Japanparts brand (cheap) so the orings broke and very hard to assemble. Then I bought BOSCH kit, very easy to instal and no problems so far after 1 week running ! 😉

@@ASFerreira Always glad to hear it when a Mini is doing fine! Sticking to name brands does tend to prevent headaches down the road.

My housing physically won’t go back in now, it’s as if something has broke underneath and is stopping it from going down, I’m now without a car

Decent video except you use a screwdriver to unscrew the top which is the most difficult part. I recommend using and suggesting people use proper tools. I thought I could get it done same way but cannot get the top of the filter housing unscrewed.
