I missed the part when you said the bottom bolt was a 10mm torx. I almost stripped mine putting a regular 10mm later to figure out it was a Torx. Thx

Hello, your video is very well explained, I have a question, must the crankshaft have a specific position when installing the timing chain? and I'm changing the oil pump chain, should it have some timing?

Great video. Would add the following note. On the threaded metal ring, there is a small hole and it denotes where the thread starts. If you position the hole slightly counterclockwise to the toothed plastic edge of the filter assembly, it will be in the right place to engage the thread. It is one full thread, so you want to spin the ring one full turn clockwise. The ring also has a stop on it so that it can't be over-tightened. If you turn (and tap with screwdriver/hammer, if needed) until the hole ends up in the same place as where you started, you will feel that point where it stops. Also, safety glasses a good idea.

Thank you for the information. I liked your video. I subscribed, and I am looking forward to learning from you and all your subscribers. I have two minis , I have a Red 2003 R53 S hatchback with 229,000 miles on it, and it feels and runs like new . I also have a 2007 R56 Non-s hatchback , with 101,000 miles , and also runs great . But it's getting a P2178 code . Yesterday, I replaced VVT solenoid value on the back side . Also, the upstream o2 sensor and I put in new plugs and new coils . I also replaced the mass air flow sensor. And changed the oil & oil filter. Last night, my wife and I took it out to go through the drive cycle after clearing the code with my bluedriver scan tool . We went through the drive cycle twice . And now there is no check engine light on . And I think I need some more drive time on it . Oh, and I also had put in cataclean following those instructions to the letter . Because it worked well on my R53 last month . If you have any suggestions on that P2178 code, I would appreciate any advice. We used to belong to the SIN CITY MINI CLUB here in Las Vegas. but they stopped having meetings. I was told that there is a new club starting up again. I'm going to check it out at the next cars and coffee meeting . We are Tim & Shauna. Please to meet you, sir 😊

I just want to add to please be aware that there are still bad timing chains/ tensioner out there. I bought one from ECS Tuning that cost me a set of Iconel exhaust valves. The tensioner did not have anything markings as to where its made. Thats not the only issue Ive had with getting inferior shit from ECS Tuning. I don't buy ANY parts from them anymore...its not worth my car or my money to deal with them.

I'm sure this has already been mentioned but be aware of cheap after market parts. I just removed my new one I bought off Amazon after a month because it started making a loud ticking sound. Luckily I kept the old one, pulled the seals off the "new one" and put it in the old one which was working great just leaking oil. The new one had significantly less vacuum than the OG and internal quality was terrible using plastic parts. Great vid.

So I did this job two days ago, and there were no leaks. I even went on a 20 mile drive… nothing. Today I went to fill up the tank, and there was a puddle of fuel under the car, below where the filter sits. No other leaks or drips since. What could it be?
