Thanks for the thorough video!! I just finished the timing chain on our mini, and wouldn't have been able to do it without this. Good job man, well done.

Just wanted to say I'm not mechanically minded but I am learning. My r56 2009 s series has a leak; watching your videos has given me the confidence to locate and fix it. over time, I'm going to follow your steps and overhaul all the hoses as from what I have seen they are all crap and break easily. Just need to ask, would getting metal coolant hoses improve, or prevent future leaks or should I stick with the plastic ones?

All sport mode does is make powersteering and braking less responsive BUT yet increases the throttle input % so it tricks people into thinking the car is peppier but in actuality all its doing is reaching a higher throttle input with less pedal input.... I actually HATE how touchy my car is with it on.. its terrible. Atleast with a tuned mini sportmode is useless

I just bought a 2011 Clubman S and I had no idea what sport mode was, except that it's for "sporty" driving. I always drove manual Japanese cars, but I had read about shifting with paddles and a car columnist I used to work with said that I would enjoy it. I would really like to see it done before I attempt it myself. I've been reading the owner's manual and it doesn't go into much detail.

There are a few different brake bleeding routines in the NT 510 Elite. One of the routines steps you through the use of a pressure bleeder which is kind of redundant. Why does anyone need a diagnostic tool to instruct them on using a pressure bleeder ? The other routine requires the diagnostic tool to trigger the ABS unit in order activate inlet /outlet valves in order to replace air pockets with fluid. In this process you are supposed to do a manual bleed first using a pressure bleeder and then follow up with the ABS routine. A - bleed lines manually with pressure bleeder ( Since you emptied a lot of fluid when replacing a brake line, you skipped part A ) B - bleed lines at the same time as activating ABS unit ( You only completed three lines. You didn't activate the ABS for one line ) C - bleed lines manually with pressure bleeder ( You completed four lines ) As far as I know, the reason the NT 510Elite directs you to the wheel to bleed is so the ABS unit can activate the corresponding valves. Therefore, when the NT 510 Elite directs you to the right rear , its because the ABS unit will only activate the valves for the right rear. One of the issues when a brake system is emptied is air gets in the ABS unit and is hard to bleed out manually. If you bleed all your lines with bubble free fluid and your brake pedal is still soft or goes to the floor, it can be attributed to air in the ABS unit. ( Often a sinking pedal is due to a malfunctioning Master Cylinder but air in the ABS can have the same effect as a malfunctioning Master Cylinder )

Its written everywhere else including in the Foxwell instructions that the brake system should be bled before starting the ABS pump bleed. ( I have the NT 510Elite and a 2005 MINI R53 ). Also, more interesting and confusing is the NT510Elite does not instruct us to keep the brake pedal engaged the whole time we are bleeding the ABS unit whereas, the NT630Elite requires the brake pedal to be engaged. What do you know about this ?

Nice couldn't believe how easy this was to do, you did a whole lot more take this apart take that apart then I did. Bought the tool to hold the cam shaft but it really did seem like it was necessary, but if you ever do one use it anyways. All in all it took me the time of this video to do my timing set up and it was the first I've ever done.

Maxi problems...junk. garbage. crap. scrap. money pit. piece of s**t. after 5 years they're almost worthless. worst piece of junk i've ever owned and has ever been made. almost bankrupted me. i needed therapy after i dumped that garbage can and i still have nightmares. folks...if you value your mental health and financial wealth, don't do it, just don't do it.

Man I hope this works! Just did the timing chain with your video as my handbook. Started up and let it idle while it was still up on blocks a few times and I was certain it was gonna be perfect. Started to take it for a drive up the road and then it just diedright before the exhaust got really loud. Was able to limp at home. I scoped all my cylinders and the pistons look fine so I don’t think my gears slipped. Keeping my fingers crossed to try this when I get home. I don’t have the same scan tool, but it’s the same brand and I think it’s actually an updated version.

Several questions. Do you think it would be possible to remove oil and water by sucking it out of hole used for dip stick? I have a 2009 mini without turbo, so only going to use 1. Live in New England. Concerned with ice forming in catch can. Is this an issue? Considering adding a few drops of injector cleaner into catch can every month as a preventative measure. Thoughts?

I don't leave it on all the time. I don't know if there is any basis to it, but I feel like the more frequent thermostat opening may cause more wear and tear and I wonder if it causes greater strain on the clutch and power train. I do turn it on about 2 minutes before I get to my destination to cool it down before I shut the car off. 2012 R58 Coupe S

AMAZING VIDEO ! thank you, one question though, for the ground . Is it necessary to run the ground wires from the front to the back? It's just ground, tapping it to a screw in the front and doing the same thing to the pumps ground and all the other ground in the rear would be the same right? or am I missing something? thank you

Works great! But why did they think engine temp should be hidden? Engine overheating totally effs up the engine in a myriad of ways, so why hide the possibility of seeing this happen until it's critical. Absolutely idiotic.

"The chain doesn't stretch" Except they do physically, in the true sense of the word "stretch". You've clearly never held a stretched chain to a new one and seen with your own eyeball that the old chain will be slightly longer..... because it stretched. 🤦‍♂

This is an excellent watch, thank you. I am having to get to the throttle body on a Peugeot 308 Petrol Turbo and have been struggling to work out how to do so. I guessed I might have to take the intake manifold off but actually I could only see 3 screws, but there are 5, good stuff. And a few tricks after that to boot. This video has answered all my questions and helped a heck of a lot. Mind you there is way more space in your Mini to get to the back of that engine, however I have got the general idea and am off to get it done. Your share on this is worth me buying you a beer 🙂 Cheers
