Man! Lifesaver. I just inherited an 86 Malcom Conor C4 with 52k miles. It was my dad's, excellent shape, I'm now the 3rd owner. Some vacuum leaks, worn gaskets, etc. I'm going to pull the plenum, runners, etc and install new parts. No upgrades, keeping it original as possible. Your regulator video answered my last question of how to and what to expect. Prayers sent to you and your family and daughter man. Heartbreaking but hopeful. I appreciate you.

Good instructions & advice on cleaning under the hood. Another “corvette” channel was actually recommending aluminum brightener. WRONG! That’s the easiest way to ruin your aluminum plenum, runners, distributor cover, etc! I made that mistake in the early 80’s on a set of aluminum wheel & still feel the pain from it today! The harshest thing I will use is Simple Green diluted!!

Thanks Scott for the video. My 87 is having a hard time starting. It needs starting fluid everytime you have to start it. Doesnt matter if its cold or hot. Fuel pump is putting out pressure when you turn the key to on but nothing gets to the rail. 0 fuel pressure. So, it looks like its the fuel pressure regulator to me. Btw, I spray starter fluid in to get it going but fuel pressure is only 20-22 psi at idle. As soon as I shut it down it drops instantly to 0 psi. So thank you for the video. I will be following it closely when I replace my FPR. Thanks again.

@@lDUNNO0 no. Very disappointed when it didnt. After taking a day or two off after that I decided to start fresh and started with fuel tank. I put my ear to the tank inlet and had my wife turn key to on. I heard the fuel pump turn on for 2 seconds, but immediately followed by a dripping liquid sound. Turns out the little pulsator piece was leaking. I took out the sending unit amd put on a new piece of fuel tubing in its place. Started right up.

Great detail in each step taken. I think I need to replace my throttle positioning sensor as once in a while, the engine coughs and almost dies when I let off the gas to slow down.

Definitely sounds like it, not very expensive to do but you do need a volt meter to adjust it. It should come with instructions. Good Luck!!

I would suggest that once you have the plenum off, you should replace all of the rubber O-rings on the fuel lines and rails with nitrile O-rings. I replaced the factory injectors with a set from "Injection Connection" so the injectors, gaskets, and O-rings came as a complete set. Yes, I replaced the fuel pressure regulator plus, the fuel filter. The fuel hoses from the hard lines cannot be replaced without replacing THE WHOLE ONE-PIECE FUEL LINE because the hoses are pressed on at the factory. I sold my '90 convertible (58,000 miles) last year after 14 years of ownership. I now have a '16 Z51 convertible. 1991 was the last year for the iron block L98.

I used AC Delco gaskets because they are some type of metal and are reusable and don't leave a mess on the runners or throttle body. I don't know if AC Delco are still making them like that or if they went to paper like Felpro, which would be a mess every time you pull them getting the razor blade out to scrap off old gasket.

I have a 89 the problem is starting. I have to recycle the key at least 5 times before it will fire. I have changed the fuel pump same trouble. I am going to change the fuel pressure regulator next. I am hoping that is the problem. Not a big deal to change I have it. So what is your thoughts on it Thanks Ray

Very good tutorial, Scott; I suspect the fpr replacement for my ’85 will be necessary someday. I noticed something odd though when you started up the engine cold after finishing the replacement. The cooling fan turned on after a few seconds. My car will not activate the fan until the coolant reaches about 230 degrees, or the A/C is on. Am I missing something? What gives?

the fans are supposed to kick on at certain high temperatures some people have manually wired switches to turn them on at any point. also when your air conditioner is on the fans will be running no matter the temperature.

how did you know your injectors wernt what was leaking and just fixed the fuel pressure regulator? I have gas in my oil and assumed I should replace FPR and injectors all at once. but maybe its just the FPR

is that a fuel line in the back driver's side near the #1 plug on the cap? the one you used two wrenches for ?

Vacumm line, should be the brake booster vacumm line. It transitions to rubber. The fuel lines are in the front by the throttle body, there are two fuel connections (feed and return).

I sure wouldn't be laying down metal wrenches on the windshield. I generally put those on the metal hood latch area or something in the wiper well area on top of the drain screens.

How about u actually show swapping out the old diaphragm for the new 1. You literally only showed people wear the screws to the fuel pressure regulator where and how to take them out and put them back in which anybody with two eyes one eye or blind could do. That was not instructional at all and it was a complete waste of 45 minutes of my life and I want it back
