Sir you are a special kind of person. No rational person willingly changes out a blower motor for funsies.... And you did. I've done 3 or 4 and none were pleasant. I appreciate your effort.

Just a tip on those old janitrol GMP's...remove the blower and feel around inside the shelf that the blower slides into. You'll probably find a couple of those large open rivets that once held the heat exchanger halves together. These were known for bad heat exchangers.
@grayfurnaceman6 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear that. I had so many of those that I always hit side of those furnaces with every service call. If I heard the rivets bounce around, I knew we had a bad heat exchanger. GFM

After loosening the blower wheel set screw I like to push the blower wheel toward the motor before loosening the motor brackets to expose the shaft for cleaning with some emory cloth. This will often negate using my puller to remove the wheel from the shaft. Also, true blower amps should be measured with the blower door on and filters in place. Happy New Year GFM!
@grayfurnaceman6 жыл бұрын
Good workmanship idea. I probably should have noted the amp draw issue. As the unit is a test mule, of course that can't be done. Happy new year. GFM

I’ve heard it’s a good idea to replace the capacitor and motor at the same time.
@grayfurnaceman6 жыл бұрын
Generally that is the best course. GFM
@MrKentaroMotoPI6 жыл бұрын
Indeed it is, Willie. It's a capacitor start motor, so if the capacitor fails...
@averyalexander23036 жыл бұрын
You should. If the motor is so old that it failed, the capacitor probably doesn't have much life left either. And if the capacitor is bad, it can cause the new motor to run hot and fail early also.

wow cool video i enjoyed it and i love the Startup Sound on that motor i'm a big fan of Startup Sound motors or fans also i like how you film now in 4K i also do the same keep up the good work.

New to your channel. My gas furnace is over 30 years old. It has 3 holes on the metal box/wall/housing of it. One is about the size of a dime. I can see inside, a little bit if I peek, and I think I see the pilot. Is this what the holes are for? Or can holes happen over time?

@grayfurnaceman I wanted to ask you: Would you recommend swapping a motor if there's oil on the side of it, but cap and amp draw are within specs???
@grayfurnaceman6 жыл бұрын
I would not generally recommend replacement. As you could see with the motor in that unit, the oil slick is indicative of loss of oil. I have seen so many of those motors last for many years after seeing that, that I only recommend yearly service to see how its doing. GFM

I lost track which one goes where on the capacitor they both the same color and same connection type. Does it matter what side? My capacitor has only 2 sides but has 4 prong per side. Your help will be appreciated!!!

@@throttlebottle5906 I feel you, but I'm learning to wear gloves when I swap a motor or put in a pan treatment. Otherwise, I deal with cuts and use neosporin as hand lotion. Lol!
@throttlebottle59066 жыл бұрын
what's a "neosporin".......... for years dirty grease, oil, dust, dirt and spray cleaners are all most used as antibacterial, well that and blood pouring out everywhere ;) while I'm kind of joking, I'm also not and a very common job-site fix is wrap some napkin over-top with electrical tape, nobody has time for the "office worker"/ "softy routine" and would continue to work the rest of the day. even if you have "band-aid's" you put part of napkin and tape over-top it all, else it would be gone in seconds...

Ugh! Circuit board mounted on blower housing. Electronic components and solder joints subjected to vibration can lead to high cycle fatigue damage. Shame them, Grayfurnaceman!
