I followed this step by step and it worked out perfectly. Right now, my phone is actually charging again! He mentioned that the phone he was working on was previously worked on, so taking off the screen was much easier for him. I used my wife's blow dryer to soften the adhesive and took my time knowing this. For anyone doing this for the first time, just have patience. Don't force the screen to separate, that's the hardest part. Just use a tool to move along and use a blow dryer to heat it up often every time it get harder to separate the screen.

I see a lot of negative comments about this video but 1. He clearly states that the phone he is using has been taken apart before and he also states how much more difficult it will be with a new phone. And 2. You should never attempt to do a repair of this difficulty without having some experience in how phones are put together. I did it and it works perfectly. This is just to show you the steps you must take to get the job done. Good video!! TY!! RockIT Tech!!

has that screen fallen out from using the same old dirty adhesive that was already on it? The average persons is full of dirt or the dirt gets pushed to the sticky part when taking it apart.
@belladavis28298 жыл бұрын
usually before I do a repair (I do friend's screens and stuff) I take an alcohol swab and just thoroughly wipe down the area to avoid that. while yeah, dirt gets in the adhesive, it's usually not enough dirt to make it not reusable once. twice or more, I'd say go and use a new adhesive.
@katherinemorgan26328 жыл бұрын
Darn it! I have to clean that nasty dirt outta the way every time. What a drag huh? LMAO! Is it my imagination or is the comment made about too much dirt getting all over the adhesive (and logically speaking it must be all over the inside of some poor unsuspecting owners phone too) was that a male type individual? And the reply made about some small effort needed to wipe stuff down with alcohol swab...BEFORE you really dig in to it. Then it's a negligible amount of dirt getting in to crust up your tiny adhesive strips so you can reuse them several times. That was from a female type person? Figures...😝

Before you go through all this trouble try blowing the port out with compressed air after spraying a shot of QD electronic cleaner. Use a tiny flathead screwdriver to gently and carefully move thin cotton fabric or paper shop towel over the contacts, or use a clean toothbrush. I did all of the above and my old charging port works again.

Great runthrough dude. Took my time taking the screen off for the first time indefinitely. I was heat gunning for at least 20 minutes in about 30 second intervals before I even attempted to lift the corner of the screen out. I think the key is patience, just little by little by little, putting the isesamo tool underneath the screens edges and gently twisting it to ease the glue underneath. I found that I had to constantly go back to heat gunning the screen as I was working my way around lifting it up. Especially the bottom where the home button is. I gotta emphasize how much patience and gentle handedness is needed to take the screen off though. Took me a whole hour just to take the screen out. The minute you get impatient you WILL crack the glass. Hope that helps anyone else.

I took it to a Samsung Dealer and they claimed there was an issue with the board, but did not specified if it is with the main one (mother) or the charging port board. Do you think this issue could be triggered by the USB charging board (cheaper and easier to change). Thanks a lot for the video!

I was looking for a disclaimer during the video. Totally agree, the screen never comes off this easily during an S5 repair. You need to ask yourself if you want to risk shattering the very fragile screen just to replace a charge port. Plus, upon reassembly you'll need to keep in mind that this phone will never be the same. It's practically impossible to find adhesive like the stuff from the factory. This repair is difficult and risky.

i dont think anyone mentioned cleaning adhesive with alcohol, just everything in the work area and possibly outside of the phone to remove all that yucky debris you mentioned that sticks to and ruins the adhesive. (personally, i like the alcohol sterile wipes because they are dampened enough to clean but not dripping, drowning or destroying anything). the insides of an S5 that the owner hasnt attempted to take a look see inside for themselves are very clean. only debris ive seen in there is directly related to accidental part destruction by big, strong and much too aggressive hands. military might call it friendly fire, i would imagine the scenarios could be compared.

Should I by a special heat tool to fix it or chance my arm and give it to one of the Irish repair shops with a 50% chance of getting it back more broken than I handed it in? 80degrees Celsius sounds like a lot
@hackster1015 жыл бұрын
The key to successfully removing the screen is heat carefully and uniformly applied. If force is applied to a cold screen, it will break. If a heat gun is not available, a hair dryer should work. 80 degrees Celsius = 176 degrees Fahrenheit. I use a digital infrared thermometer to monitor the phone temperature while heating. Once a proper uniform heat is achieved, the glue on the screen will turn loose.

Great video, but at the end, it looks like the screen is not water tight now and no new glue was added to the screen edge, i would think this is not the best plan.... this repair will fix the charging port, some issues with overheating when chargining if battery is good, and will make data transfer work good and faster, charging will be factory speed again fast, and comes with a new microphone if you have microphone issues. Excellent video 10/10

You should emphasize the possibility of the digitizer separating from the glass and sticking to the frame in which case it cracks and has to be replaced as an entire glass/digitizer unit at great cost. You never say there are 2 main parts: glass and digitizer and that the digitizer is the more fragile part. I wonder how many phones have been destroyed because of this video.

The Samsung S5 is still usable today - but it's one of the most difficult phone to repair. How can you place the essential hardware pieces so unfortunate that you have to remove the strongly glued and expensive display unit if you only want to replace the charging port, which costs a few bucks? What a crap, the designer was probably on drugs. The danger of destroying the touchscreen unit and its fragile ribbon cable by disassembly is very high.
@rickhowe50823 жыл бұрын
I can tell you exactly why. They want you to buy a new phone, instead of repair. These were designed in such a way to discourage repair work, or at the very least force you to break the screen or digitizer which results in a more costly repair. Either way, big tech wins because you had to give them more money.
