I'd "LIKE" this 1000 times if I could. Wished this vid would've come up on search sooner than so many others that wanted to jam wires between battery and phone pins. Glad I found it before resorting to that. Galaxy S5, USB charging port bad, worked intermittently for a few days but now no-go. Can see broke off pin inside. Decided time to upgrade anyway so ordered a brand new S7 (yea quit laughing) but won't be here for a week. This solution works great and will get me by, charging overnight only. S5 now says its charging wirelessly. Seems to still "fast charge" (using Samsung Rapid Charger wall bump). My MacGyver'd rig (for S5) is a popsicle stick laying vertically down the back of phone with 2 small brass finishing nails embedded across one end at 5mm spacing. Head end of nails pointing down extending about 1/4 inch. Cut nails shorter on topside then soldered wires to them on topside.. Easy to align on contacts. Held down tight using clamp-on guitar tuner's clamp about 1.5 inches from bottom of phone. Stays in place well. Kludgy but easy to setup and works! Can live with it till new phone arrives and data transfer finished. I rarely comment and never this much. Thank you thank you thank you for this vid!!

Great idea. I have a Samsung S5 with this issue. Paid to have a new port but only lasted about a month. Its such a nice phone, almost perfect screen etc & I don't want to recycle. This is a great idea to keep this phone as a spare as I have an iPhone 6s as my everyday. Love the iPhone 6s as it's so similar - small form factor, fast processor & great battery life used as a phone. Thanks again.

Thank you so much! I too stumbled across your tutorial while trying to find out if I could charge my battery in an S3 (I have an S4). I usually charge it in my husbands s4(which is also a hassle), but he is out of town. This worked out perfectly last night. This will do the job until we upgrade next week.

A QI charger uses these same ports and allows you to bypass your broken usb port. I have a link for the QI chargers in the description. Port Locations: Samsung Galaxy s3 Port location: To the left of the battery you will see the two ports. Positive(red wire) is on the top and Negative/Ground(black wire) is on the bottom. Samsung Galaxy s4 Port location: Just below the camera to the left you will see the two ports. Positive(red wire) is the left and Negative/Ground(black wire) is on the Right. Samsung Galaxy S5: The ports are level with the top of the battery just to the left(lowest set of ports). They are horizontal /side by side with the Negative/ground(black wire) on the Right(closest to the battery) and the Positive(red wire) on the left. Samsung Note 2 Port location: Looking at the back they are just right of the battery. The top is Positive(red wire) and the bottom is Negative/ground(black wire). Samsung Note 3 Port location: Looking at the back they are just left of the battery level with the top of the battery. There are 3 contacts located in a line above/below each other. The top is Positive(red wire), the middle is Negative/ground(black wire) and nothing is done with the bottom.

The tabs are designed to charge the phone via a wireless charger that delivers 5volts to them(exact same as a usb). If it is not taking the charge there is a chance your battery is the culprit and toast. Try swapping a battery with someone to see it that works, it may even be the reason your usb port doesn't work.

sixtyfiveford Hey man, do you know what this looks like for an s5 active? I'm not seeing anything on my phone...
@sixtyfiveford9 жыл бұрын
The S5 ACTIVE doesn't have wireless charging capabilities so this wont work. However, the usb port/circuit board for these are cheap and with a little know how and probably a youtube video you can easily swap in a new one.

I really appreciate this video to help me deal with my probably cheaply made(to encourage a person to buy ANOTHER SAMSUNG) broken charging port. I have no desire to buy another super phone. I just want enough charge to back up photos and contacts. The only improvement that would be appreciated is if the presenter of the video spoke a little more slowly and enunciated his words. Otherwise I am so happy that this video presents us with a doable temporary solution for those of us not inclined to fix our own electrical problems. So thank you very much. Yes indeed it did, but proceed with caution, tried it on a Galaxy S5 and fried the motherboard. It can and does run hot, so keep an eye on it while you're charging this way but it absolutely works. Thanks man. What I did was cut up a usb cable, soldered a red wire strip and a black wire strip (cut from the cable) to those ports, taped them down, and had them protrude out of different sides of the case. Then I had a red and a black coming out of my phone. Then I used the other half of my cable and connected the red and black from the cable to the two wires coming out of my phone. It's a good temporary fix while I wait for the new USB port to arrive. Thanks for the video!

It worked, well.... the same idea anyway. My Son broke the usb input on his tablet. I ended up soldering the usb cable directly to the battery terminal wires and fed the cable back through a small hole I drilled in the top of the case (like a 3.5mm jack) to make it look factory, and it does! Just have to charge it on a timer so I dont blow the battery. Downside is I will have to transfer data via wi-fi now. Cheers for making the video, you saved me a lot of headaches mate!

Thank you. This worked better than connecting the wires to the battery port. True to your word it beeps and the light shows charging, same as when charging from the usb charging port. Oh. I confirmed (unintentionally) crossing the wires is BAD. I melted the cables where the wires made contact with each other and created a small molten fireball that burned my fingers as it fell to the carpet below. Fortunately did not start a fire. So, be very careful. Avoid crossing the wires. And by all means stay away from anything flammable esp if your hands are as unsteady dealing with small items as mine are. Thx for this video.

Hi. I noticed that Galaxy Note 3 has two more additional contacts at the top of the battery. What are those for? Also, what did you do/put to the tip of the wires to make it easier for it to have contact with the metals. Thank you. This video is a big help.
@sixtyfiveford9 жыл бұрын
Paul Dacpano The other contacts are for accessories like an extra battery built into the case or antenna, I'm not sure which. The mini wires can accept a dob of solder or you can use a little ball of kitchen tin foil wrapped around/into the wires.

Good tip but you need excellent eyesight to work on this tiny stuff. I would not use the computer to charge it because if the wires do short you could ruin your USB port on the computer, I would instead use a plug-in adapter and charge it from the wall outlet, better to damage the adapter than the computer USB port.

That is awesome information. Thanks for sharing. I have been taking my battery out and hooking up wires directly to the battery with a plug or charger at the other end until I get my new port installed.

Its simply superb... worked great ... . Technician asked $60 to change the port. Ordered OEM battery and charger $15 as a permanent solution. Until i receive them this solution helped. Thanks

Thanks.. Look into a QI charger as well. It will allow you to wirelessly charge your phone without ever pulling the battery. They run around 20 bucks.

Good morning! This work-around had worked perfectly; Thank you for the video. Unfortunately, as of last night, after a minute of charging, it'll say, "Charging paused. Battery temperature too high" I'd then off the phone to charge, same issue. Should I change cables, get another battery, or did I mes with the temperature sensors in the phone. I have a Samsung Galaxy S3, TM.
@sixtyfiveford10 жыл бұрын
Evie Cadet The temperature sensor is build into the battery, but there is some circuitry in the phone. Generally it is the batteries fault though and a new battery is needed. You can try putting your battery in the freezer for 15 minutes and then reinstall it into the phone to see if it charges longer.

Thank you so much. I had already pulled the broken usb charger and orderd a new charger module for my note 3, about $10 Amazon 2-day prime. but at least I have a temporary work around now. As for why they break? As a mechanical engineer, I believe the entire Micro USB design is flawed. Whether its my samsung note or Amazon Kindle or Playstation 4, the damn connectors get bent and stop working. It's just not a very robust design. The Apple Macbook uses a magnetic connector. it just snaps in place - no pins to bend, no twisting or bending. The USB specification people need to come up with something more robust than the MicroUSB. Something that can survive a hundred thousand cycles of connect - disconnect and rough handling. That's what military connectors meet so don't tell me it cant be done. My 2 cents.
@sixtyfiveford9 жыл бұрын
+Stephen Schummer Yeah, I'm hoping better for the new usb C connector. Some phones have metal bracing around the usb input to make it sturdier. You got lucky with the Note 3 as phones like the Galaxy S3 have the usb micro connected directly to the motherboard with all the phone ID and can't be simply swapped out.

Hey 65, love your videos! Have you ever done one on extending a WiFi signal? I have seen some but they just do not work. Thanks man.
@sixtyfiveford10 жыл бұрын
splibb I bought one of these (link below) about a year ago and have loved it. I put it into my garage and it extended my wireless signal around my yard. I swear the intentionally make the signals super weak. www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WA850RE-Universal-Wireless-Indicator/dp/B00E98O7GC/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1417820070&sr=1-2&keywords=wifi+extender

Read in the video description.
@sixtyfiveford8 жыл бұрын
Samsung Note 4 Port location: Looking at the back there are ports just left of the top of the battery and directly above the battery. There are 5 contacts with 4 inline(up/down) located to the left of the top of the battery. The second one from the top in the row of 4 is the Negative(black wire) contact. Above the battery are 4 inline(up/down) ports. The very top one is Positive(red wire)
