This video shows how to replace a damaged hose pipe in a Hozelock auto reel. The hose pipe in this reel had split in several places and required replacing. The hose length is about 30 metres or £150 feet. This was a bit of a challenge as some of the screws were badly rusted and could not be removed due having damaged heads.

Perfect, exactly what I need to do, to my identical reel. Always nice to see the insides before venturing in! Thanks.

Superb. I went on to KZbin and typed in 'change hose on Hozelok' and this was at the top, the very exact same one as mine. Thanks for taking the time to do this. :-) 17 people didn't understand what that long thin thing is in your right hand. Couple of tips. The middle hose connector comes off by removing the green plastic clip which has three locating lugs holding the black collar. To get the hose off on the inside, first loosen the plastic toothed clip by lifting the top part carefully then pulling the underneath section outwards. Then I recommend cutting the old one leaving the attached piece at about a foot long. Then bend it vertically and spray some WD40 down. Leave to soak for about a minute then twist the piece of hose clockwise and anti-clockwise whilst pulling. It should start to loosen then pull off quite easily.

Excellent timing with this, I have the same 30m Hozelock reel and mine has even bleached the same shade as yours lol. Had to chop around 10 foot off it because it is starting to perish and leak so thanks for sharing.

That is one impressive screwdriver! I have never seen that type of hose reel here in the states, looks like it would keep alot of junk from getting rolled up in the hose. Thank for yet another well made vedio.

Thanks for this. A sugestion, at 00:48, you could have spent a couple of seconds explaining how to remove the back hose connector which involves removing a circlip. In later scenes, the connector was still in place as you dissassembled the unit which could confuse some to think you don't have to remove it..

I have had my reel for around 10 years and it was well faded due to the UV damage but yours is not so bad. When you remove the middle plate you can really see what it was like at new. I just got my colour back to almost new green by using an electric heat gun. On medium power you can get reasonably close and after a few seconds the faded plastic turns green again. Experiment by time and distance and you will get back to an almost new colour and makes it look like you have just bought it.

@ Gary Ashton You might be able to fix this by using a Jubilee clip, instead of the plastic hose clamp that is with the hose.

Hi, any ideas on how to repair the winder mechanism. I have trouble winding in my hose because it seems it doesn’t engage. Sometimes it does and winds in great but it’s lucky if it works once in about ten winds.

Hi thanks for the video, I have one of these and the handle stopped turning the hose reel so I can’t retract the hose. The handle turns, it just doesn’t ‘catch’ the hose. I asked Hozelock but they refused to help me in case I hurt myself!!! Any ideas?

I'm afraid you will have to take it apart to see what the problem is. I've not come across that problem yet, but it is likely something simple. Thanks for the comment 👍

There is a plastic spring clip around it that you need to lever off with a screwdriver then the connector just pulls out.

It's like a little plastic cable tie kind of connector (if I remember correctly), you have to push it to the side so that the plastic bit slips out from the rest of it. (I hope that makes sense) Thanks for the comment 👍

Beware that on the Hozelock 2496 Fast Reel they use T20 Torx screws for most of them there is one posidrive screw. Again you will need a long torx driver the 100mm standard blade length will not do 2 of them I have had to buy a 200mm bit with 1/4" drive as I could not get a torx screwdriver long enough.

These normally use a Herbie Clip to hold the hose to the unit, it might just need closing more with a pair of pliers, or you might have to get a new Herbie Clip, or it might be possible to use a hose clip/jubilee clip (can't remember if one will fit or not) Thanks for the comment 👍

Or replace the centre section on the outside of the black shaft where the hose attaches that is also a major leak source that this video doesnt address. Hozelock have a long guarentee and will send you that part and a new hose free if within the warrentee period of 15 years for this model with an original hose. The free replacement hose warrantee isnt as long.

"O" rings are normally pretty standard. If you could get one out and measure it, you should be able to find a replacement one. I have a "O" ring kit that has the most common sizes, it has been really useful over the years.
