Worth mentioning.. This tutorial was performed on a Beetle with an automatic trans. With a manual trans there is much less obstruction and you do not need to drop the sub frame.

100% better explained here than any other videos I watched. My control arm on Driver's side bolt didn't clear the transmission pan. NOW, I can do it :)

Thank you for putting this video out. Definitely the driver side control arm is the worst out of the two. Since I was going that far, want ahead and replaced struts tie rod ends,all ball joints. With my daughter’s bug at 160,000 everything was loose. After the alignment steering is the best it’s been since it was new.

I need your help? I have a problem? I have a 06 New Beetle 2.5L.Automatic. I'm Replacing P-Side Lower control arm. The front control arm (Bushing bolt). That nut for that bolt to tighten fill inside the frame. My guess is, the tack weld that held the nut inside the frame broke causing the nut to drop inside the frame. I can't tighten the bushing bolt. There's no nut for the bolt anymore. What can I do? I'm talking about the front bushing not the rear bushing. The rear bushing has a nut & a bolt. The front bushing only the bolt that comes out. There is no nut anymore for that bolt to tighten.

Has anyone tried dropping the trans pan instead of the subframe? I need to replace my trans pan anyways, so I'm wondering if I should do this while I've got it off. Good idea?

Hi. Do I need to put the car in 4 jackstands or 2 is okay? Also, does it need an alignment after doing the lower control arm?
@HowtoAutomotive2 жыл бұрын
You can get away with just two. And I would recommend an alignment yes

Any idea what a shop may charge for the labor to change out both control arms . I would purchase appropriate parts and supply them to the shop

I just got a quote for 1600 with parts. I did struts tire rod, ends, all joints and both lower control arms for around 400 and 110 for the struts.

The lower control arm are the same for both sides???
@marcstein22065 жыл бұрын
yes they are, they are just flipped. The Ball Joint comes off of the arm and is able to be installed on either side.
