What a great question. The way I understand the Maxi-Paw rotor is that the 2045A is sold at a local Rain Bird distributor/supplier, and the AG5 is sold at the big home improvement stores. I don't know if the internal assembly from the 2045A is interchangeable with the AG5. They look a little different. To be safe I would buy another 2045A.

Thanks so much! I need to cap one of the sprinkles on the ground. Where can I find a cap that tightens well and shuts down the water from coming out completely?
@Iscaper
@Iscaper 3 жыл бұрын
You can't cap the sprinkler off but you can put a 3/4" PVC threaded plug into the fitting that feeds the head. You'll need to dig up the head to do this.

I have a question about adjustiing the spring. There are 2 very small plastic pieces that stick out with a small gap in between them. My original spring end was to the right of the right piece. I believe that is the A-position. When changing to the B-Position does the spring go in between the 2 plastic pieces or to the left of them? It will fit in either spot. Rainbird's directions are confusing: The red, black and BLUE nozzles require adjusting the arm spring. Your AG-5/Maxi-Paw is shipped with the tip of the spring in the "A" position. If you use the red, black or BLUE nozzles, you will need to change it to the "B" position , It comes with a Blue nozzle in the A-position but they say it should be in the B-Position. Thanks !!!

When you move the spring to the B position it relaxes the spring so the Maxi-Paw rotates more slowly. If you have the blue nozzle I would leave it in the A position.

I picked up a few rain bird LG3HE with the hose quick connect. I want to just run them with a water timer. At the bib I have 60psi and 14gpm. Even at the end of a 100'' garden hose have 58psi. Anyways can the nozzles on these be changed to "dump" more GPM so I can water deeper once a week to get an inch conpared to the stock 4.2gpm @ 60psi?
@Iscaper
@Iscaper 5 жыл бұрын
If the sprinkler takes the sames nozzles as the maxi-paw you could install a number 12 (beige) nozzle that uses 8gpm @ 60psi. With the flow you stated, you can only safely run 2 heads.

Replaced my rotary heads with impact. The middle zone of my yard has 4 heads and everything is fine. Back of my zone of my yard has 4 heads but it seems there's not enough pressure for them. I'm stumped a bit. Not sure why the 4 in the middle zone would work fine but the 4 in the back zone 20' away don't seem to have enough pressure. They are the same setup.

You could check the flow control on the sprinkler valve (if it has one) and make sure it is fully open. If it is you may not have enough flow to run the back zone. If you're using Max-Paws on the back zone and they have the blue nozzles, each head will use 4.2 gpm at 60 psi. That's 16.8 gpm for the zone. If your pipe size for the zone is 3/4" the flow available is only 9-12 gpm. That could be your problem. You could try the 06 red nozzle on each head which only uses 2.6 gpm at 60 psi.

Are the inner assemblies of all maxi-paw sprinklers interchangable. We have a model 2045a that's malfunctioning; would that be compatable with Model AG58pk? Thanks for the videos.

Is it possible to put a Maxi-Paw rotor into a Mini-Paw shell?
@isk8likeaposer
@isk8likeaposer 11 жыл бұрын
The only difference between the AG5 and 2045 MaxiPaw is the lid. To answer the question: Yes, they are interchangeable with each other as well as all forms of Minipaws (LG3, MG4) and similar 1/2" pop up impact sprinklers by Obrit,Toro, and Champion. The Rain Bird heads are far superior in my opinion though.

I wonder what the factory default nozzle GPM number is from Maxi Paws 15 to 20 years ago? Was it 3.0 GPM like I usually see in sprinkler head rotors like the 32SA Rain Bird heads? I need to cover a 37 foot radius at 180 degree arc in my backyard (10,000 sq ft). It's near a town sewer drain grate so it's at the bottom of a graded slope (10 foot gradation from normal yard height, so it gets good PSI as the current Maxi-Paw there turns very very fast compared to the other Maxi-Paws in my yard). I think the head being at the bottom of the graded slope helps the PSI and makes the impact head turn very fast side to side, is that correct in my thinking?

Your probably right that the older Maxi Paws came from the factory with a 3.0 gpm nozzle. I don't think the one head watering faster is the result of the 10' elevation change, you'd only be gaining around 4 psi. Some Maxi-Paws just do that. Even though I started out using Maxi-Paws in my business years ago, I've moved on to the 5000 series rotors because they're more reliable, have rain curtain technology, and it's easier to change the nozzles. Here's a link if you want to check them out: store.rainbird.com/nsearch?q=5000+series

I did the 5 gallon bucket test from my garden hose bib right next to the sprinkler system manifold and got 11 GPM. The zone in question has only 3 Maxi-Paws on it. 2 of them at 180 degrees and one at 360 degrees. That Maxi-Paw near the sewer grate covers about 35 feet radius at open full settings. I wonder what kind of PSI I'm getting right now for when I switch to Rain Bird 5000 series or 42SA heads? 25 PSI, 30 PSI, 40 PSI? I'm asking you because you can probably give me a good ballpark PSI guestimate based on your experience and I need to make a radius of 37 feet with the new rotor heads I'm buying. I also think it's 1/2 inch female fittings coming out of the buried pipe. Thank you!

You can test your pressure by buying a pressure gauge and connecting it to a yard tap or an outdoor tap on you house. If you have none of these you might be able to contact your city water department and ask what the water pressure is in your area. The 5000 series rotors work great at 50-75 psi. If you install three 5004 rotors, install the 2.0 nozzle on the heads that water 180 degrees and a 4.0 nozzle on the full circle head. From the performance date on the heads the 2.0 nozzles use 2.52 gpm each and the 4.0 nozzle would use 4.83 gpm, for a total of 9.87 gpm for the zone. This is under the 11 gpm you have available so the heads should work great if you have sufficient pressure. At 65 psi the 2.0 nozzles will water 37' and the 4.0 nozzle will water 42'. If you'd like to check more performance data on the 5000 series rotors you can go to my website: iscaper.com/downloads.php and download the Rainbird 2016 Turf Catalog.

Attempting 1st install of LG-3 & can tell from video everything I was just told at Home Depot was incorrect. Was told to just screw it in & that all adjustments on throw could be done by popping off the little black cap on top of and using a flat head. Now I see that I need a special tool & that I need to do settings from internal assembly area. No video on railbird web site. Can you point to video for doing settings?

Looked everywhere can't find how to fix the cap! when one or both of the ears break that hold the cap on! these Maxi-paw's are famous for this fault! and there's really no way to fix it1 if any knows let me know! and glue will break the first time mowing!

You're right, I don't know any way to fix the cap. I would use the head until the body fills with debris and won't pop up then replace the head.

You don't need a screwdriver to pop open the cover. That's what the other end of your Rain Bird tool is designed for. Otherwise good video
