You make it look easy I’ve been watching you since you started and bought the same car at the same time

Thank you! I get allot of front end wandering on the freeway. I bet this is my problem. I’m replacing my catalytic converters at the moment, so I’ll check that out today. Maybe I’ll post a video of that myself on how I’m doing it, since I got all the bolts loose I can show what issues I ran into. Thanks for the inspiration.

After I crack the locking nut, I hand tighten it back to the tie rod. I then clamp a small jubilee clip up snug to the nut.. When you unwind the tie rod. the nut can unscrew but on replacement. hand screw it back to the jubilee clip then screw the tie rod back to the nut. You can be confident that the tracking will be as close to the original setting as you would hope to achieve.

Great tip. I think I'd still take the opportunity to get an alignment, but you're absolutely right. If you're careful, you can get them back on in nearly the same position.

Thanks for your video it gave me the confidence to do mine today. I replaced the right outer end and it reduced the play by 90%. I will probably do the left side next payday.

Thank you for the video. Did you notice any clunking on uneven roads at slow speeds? I am trying to hunt down my noise and when I pull on the tie rod, and push on the caliper I do get a bit of movement so this could be my issue? I have replace strut tower bushings and drop links so far. 02 C4. Cheers

Does that tie rod joint come pre-greased? I need to do this with mine but wanted to know if I need to buy a grease gun. Thank you and great videos!!

Hi. Nice video. I think I need to change my tie-rods. Did your wheels slightly pull to the side when driving on road grooves then go back to normal when the road smoothens?
@BurnersCars8 жыл бұрын
+Engleburt Yep. Sounds right. Try rocking the wheels back and forth as described. Next, take a tire off and look at each of the ball joints and boots. Check for wear, cracks, etc. If the wear is bad, you will probably want to replace the inner and outer tie rods.

Is it me or is it weird that you have to have the car realigned...how far can the locknut move..? Why can't you just count the number of turns the rod makes before its off before fitting an identical replacement...?
@BurnersCars7 жыл бұрын
Eric Gruntfuttock Short answer... you can, and if you're careful, you'll likely get pretty close. But there is over an inch of adjustment on each, so it can be tricky to get it exact.
