There's really no need to use 6.3V caps, the NECs are already over rated by almost 100% at 2.5V (PS3 Cell and RSX use 1.3 - 0.9V). Just make sure to use low ESR (6-9 mOhm or below) caps to match the original spec of the NEC/TOKIN caps. Both 330uF or 470uF should be fine if the ESR is in spec, but bigger might be better here to account for any future degradation over time.

I watched a few videos from NSC on the PS3 capacitor replacement technique he uses and successfully fixed one of my old PS3s two days ago. I thought I was decent at using a reflow gun and decided to ignore the heating of the board with the grill on the bottom. I ended up burning two pads. The repair was a success because luckily the pads I burn were negative rails. I just fiber pen scratched to copper as he explains and it worked. Two things I will remember next time that NSC says over and over in his videos: 1: work clean! (Take your time and be neat) 2: if you have skills like me...(he’s basically saying he has practiced a lot and is good. You aren’t good if you haven’t practiced a lot.) So I’m guessing this might be a power supply issue🤔if not then I’ll be really depressed. “Retro” games and old games are really rare in my country and eBay died 2 years ago here so getting it repaired might be next to impossible as there is no one trustworthy here. I found this PS3 Fat a year ago on my local craigslist by a stroke of luck! And bought it for $130. It’s always really dusty inside(and it was at the time of purchase too) so I cleaned off as much dust as I could although I also had CFW So I turned up the fan speed so the temps don’t go higher than 61C. I hope my PS3 isn’t dead. 😨🥶 reddit.com/link/pz204h/video/21595v2n4sq71/player My final Question is : Can a 17-year-old teenager like me still do this? Please reply, I'm trying to avoid sending my console to Sony in trade of a 100€ replacement PS3 slim, idk what to do now since local shops refuse to try to fix it, they say it's gonna be dead for good...
@NSC-Modz4 жыл бұрын
Hello ;) before you send it to Sony, send it to me 😅 I think it happens because your ps3 is overheating, if your fan was turning louder, than your ps3 is overheating and you will need to remove your IHS

Great video mr NSC :) Thank you. I have a question about the number of the tantalums: there is an article on reddit where someone mentions: "You need to make sure the total capacitance of a NEC tokin is met when replacing it. This would be 1200uF per nec tokin for a ps3 phat - either 4x330uF or 3x470uF." I am little confused now :) Why are you using 4 pcs 470uF on one Nec/Tokin place? Mabye 3 pcs should be enought right? And Kyle Collins mentioned here : "low ESR (6-9 mOhm or below) ".. is this important? Thank you if you can answer :)
@NSC-Modz3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Yeah, both options can work, i recommend to start only with 3x 470ųf and test it if it's working. This here is not a sure fix, it's all about testing testing testing ^^
@rastafest_official3 жыл бұрын
@@NSC-Modz Thank you for the reply. Testing of course :) so replace 1 pc NEC Tokiin with 3 x 470ųf ( so the pair with 3 + 3 ) because there was a guy who replaced the pair of NEC Tokin with : 2 pc + 4 pc . My question is : every Nec TOkin is separately responisble for like booting? or we can count them together? Sorry if I consufed you , here is the video about the 2-4 solution:) kzbin.info/www/bejne/m5fCf5iul6dkf9U and another questioN: the tantalum's low ESR (6-9 mOhm or below) is important? Do you know anything about it ? Thank you very much and we appreciate your videos! Be honest your PS3 fixing videos are the best on youtube :)

capacitors ohm rating lol. if you don't understand electronics it might be good to learn before attempting this. ohms is a measure of resistance. if you ever worried about the resistance of a capacitor , it has good bad as the ESR will be high

They to be cange using a high power soldering station, not using hot air. This is not the best way. Yihua 950 High Frecuency 150 watts soldering station is the cheapest. Best Regards.

Hey great video man, I saw in other tutorials that when we replace the nec tokin caps we need to brigde both positive terminals, because original nec tokin have internal brigde that connects the two positive pads. You didnt do that, its ok?
