How to replace the rear strut assembly on a Chevy Malibu

All the Chevy Malibu's from 1997-2003 are the exact same procedure to replace the rear struts.I will show you step by step how to replace the strut assembly.

Great Work Jim! I like how you lined up the bolt holes with a screwdriver. This is an important step. Their is no need to beat the crap out of the bolts when the bolt holes can be lined up with a screwdriver or punch. Their are alot of details that you teach that would allow for someone to become a better mechanic. The problem today is some people do not want to listen and act like they know it all.

hey jim, back in the ,60s I spent nearly 8 hr tryind to get those 2 bolts off because of rust and rounded head, no power tools. luv your videos and also eric o from south main auto. stay safe.

Hi Jim: I just watched your video on replacing the rear strut on a 2003 Chevy Malibu. Very informative. I have a 2003 Malibu which has a clunking noise in the right rear whenever I drive over any small or large bump in the road. I suspect it is the strut mount but I'm not sure. What do you recommend I check?

Before you change anything make sure to check the sway bar bushing and links.

Those quick struts are time savers,take the old strut assembly and put in the new strut assembly.Best to replace them in pairs.

Hi Jim, As always you do excellent work. Jim I have 2002 Buick LeSabre. It's making a sound everything my son Ride's the back seat. It has air shocks on it. Can I replace the air shocks with strut's like that? If I do. Will this cause a check engine light to come on? Or do you recommend I replace with air shocks? I think my air compressor is still working. I hear something kicking on and off back there every few minutes. Sorry to ask you so many questions. Thanks for everything. A great video.
