How to Replace the Thermostat on a Mercruiser 260- bass boat restoration

I'm installing a new thermostat on my Mercruiser 260 engine on my Ranger 395- V I/O bass boat to continue with this boat restoration. I wasn't sure of the age or condition of the old thermostat, so I wanted to install a new one as good preventative maintenance.

A few ebay vendors were showing this kit with an additional gasket. The one with two small metal rings on each side. On my reorder, I ordered the that did not show this one in their picture but it may come with it. I wrote them and have not heard back. I decided to reorder the kit since I will need new gaskets to play it safe. This is a follow up post to one I posted a few min ago. Thank you for your ongoing help!

So water from outdrive is the front lower right hose?

Do you have the mercruiser part number? Is it just the 3 parts the thermostat and a upper and under gasket?

Today- on my 86 Alpha one gen one 260V8 I installed the Sierra 18-3668 thermostat kit and I had a leak coming out of the top gasket area. I torqued it again and it still leaked. After removing the housing I noticed that the RT sealant I used didn't appear evenly spread when I removed the housing. Should I not use sealant and just rely on the gaskets? The 18-3668 kit that I had ordered from eBay comes with the thermostat and two gaskets . One gasket has only the two bolt holes and no center hole. And I guess the top gasket would be the one that is shaped like the top part of the housing where the bolts go thru. There is also two rings that look like large O rings. Not sure if I need to use these or not. When you get a chance please give me the order of the gaskets I need to complete my thermostat install! Thanks so much !!
