did this before watching video and learned the hose clamps were soooo hard to work with. I found out that a a small vise script works great but it can be tough to get in the very back hose. just mentioning in case someone cant find that tool. thanks for the good vid!

These people ran some nasty stuff in their cooling system. Run only DexCool premix in mine, 2012, and everything is super clean inside and at the connections; it lubricates everything, and water pump is original! Never use tap water to dilute, always distilled to mix your own coolant. Replaced all the hoses last spring because they were swelling and collapsing with the thermal pressure changes. Black specks in the reservoir also indicates internal disintegration. If one is bad, change all five and two o-rings, 5/16 on the throttle body tubes. One atop the thermostat housing, the other at throttle body. I'm here to change a bit leaky thermostat housing, and the thermostat is fine and original so due.

You mentioned you can buy replacements for the quick connect/disconnect coupling for the top hose connecting to the thermostat housing. Where can I find one? I have been looking and cannot find them or a suitable replacement.

Vice grips can also handle the clamps, and other jobs as well. Original clamps don't fail unless rusted. Screw clamp is more expensive and seals unevenly. Proper tools, parts and fluids, people.

Will this work for 1.4L 2016 chevy sonic?
@sxero1243 жыл бұрын
No, the setup for the 1.4t is different. The thermostat assembly is on the passenger side of the engine, the water outlet housing is on the driver side of the engine. As far as I know there is no thermostat housing as shown in this video.. The thermostat for the 1.4t comes as an assembled unit (thermostat and housing) and doesn't seem to be separable.

I have a Chevy Sonic and the upper hose kept blowing off. Engine overheating. Lost all coolant and steaming . Towed it to the Chevy dealer service department and they said it had a cracked water pump housing and that was the problem. My question is could the cracked housing with fluid leaking, cause pressure to build up enough to blow the hose off?

It has a poka yoke design. It has a cutout area in the heater core metal pipe and the high temp plastic fitting has a bump inside (look carefully you will see it) that bump has to fit into the cutout. if you don't line it up it will not fit in properly and the locking ring won't lock it so it will blow out.
@localspookyboy Жыл бұрын
My cousin replaced my water pump and then suddenly the throttle body inlet quick release broke off my thermostat too. Lost all coolant in a matter of minutes and luckily my car threw me a code on the screen for my air conditioner before the check engine light came on. The guy that stopped for me said that if I would’ve kept driving I would’ve totaled my engine.
@rdmineer111 ай бұрын
No. Some dealership mechanics are hacks. I don't trust any, DIY all of this. My water pump and thermostat are original, 12yo and working perfectly. Thermostat is likely failed closed. Secret: DexCool has special lubricant, only use that.

On the side of that reservoir where does that little plastic piece lead the overflow of coolant? Mines seems to let the coolant just flow out of the reservoir and into the engine bay if it gets up to that point. Is that normal for the coolant to rise? And then leak out of that top piece on the reservoir? Just curious if I’m missing something here.
