Wow, that nut came right off the bottom (1:40). I have an impala and the whole thing is spinning. Can't get it off. I've seen people do it easily with an impact gun (which I don't have) and with a saw (which sounds long and difficult).

@1aauto I like to do what ever work I'm able to do on my car in the driveway rather than sending it to a shop. I've done everything from simple oil changes and tire rotations to swapping out the A/C compressor on this Impala (with some help from my neighbor), but I've never dealt with this before. After seeing how simple it is, I'll definitely be telling pep boys thanks but no thanks. By uploading this video, you saved me over $300!!! @Angela Carillo that is one potential cause... It could also potentially be an alignment issue or even warped brake rotors. Find someone you trust to look at the car and see.... From what I've read, the tie rod issue is pretty common with this generation Impala ('06-'12) around 70,000 miles or so.....

Thank you for watching! Typically no, they cause a knocking noise in the front end. If you suspect a Tie Rod has failed you can jack up the front end and check for play. Hope this helps! 888-844-3393

So if you tighten the nut on the bottom of the new tie-rod end and it tightens up so high up that the cotter-pin doesn't fit between two slots of the nut... is this a problem? Is the nut supposed to be set in such a way that a cotter-pin will go through the hole and nicely between slots in the nut? Also - what is the foot-pound torque used to tighten the nut?

Yes that cotter pin should fit into the hole and between the slots on the castle nut.

+David Streich You do not have to get it aligned necessarily, but when you replace steering components it is advised that you get the car aligned. There is always a good chance it will need an adjustment! 1aauto.com

1A Auto Parts Thank you very much! My buddy put the tire rod on for me and he kept stressing that I didn’t need one if it was done correctly. But when I pulled my car away the tire felt better, but the steering wheel is slightly turned to the left while driving straight and if I straighten the wheel out the car slightly goes to the right. I’m assuming that’s the alignment. So I did set up an appointment for an alignment. Hopefully that fixes the issue. Again thank you for your response, and I did subscribe to your channel.
