I really appreciate your reminders to look 👀 out for stuff, and the details, and the awesome little details that other videos don’t mention, that a total noob like me needs to learn. I appreciate the tools that I don’t have to save up for and buy! I can use what I already have, except for the pickle fork. I’ll get one of those. You are a godsend! It’s funny, I always thought it would be fun to learn mechanics, as a youngster. But, I didn’t ever feel comfortable with all the guys in the classroom who were giving me a hard time about it. So, I didn’t do it. Years later, I tried to take a class again, and the instructor and the other students were not friendly towards me and I stopped going. Recently, I was ripped off at a shop, and my car was sabotaged to the point where it was a rolling death trap! Because I had given all my money to that shop, I had no way to pay more money to get it fixed. With your videos, and a few other channels, and an acquaintance who I never knew had mad skills in wrenching his own vehicles, I have successfully changed my rear differential oil, adjusted my E brake, installed fog lights, burped my coolant system, cleaned my throttle body, and more! When I have some spare money, I’m definitely buying a hoodie for the 10mm! 😇🤩

changed my outers today ("tough" lock nut was an under statement ) I needed to heat the nut for a minute on the left side. You saved me a ton of money. $40 opposed to $350 at a shop. Thanks. Keep up the great videos

An aftermarket tie rod could be a little longer or shorter than the factory tie rod , so pay attention to tire wear and how the car tracks l, you still might have to have a front end alignment

My 08 xterra had bilstein2" in front...shackle back....whole front end redone stock.....just had to temp take lift in front off but new shocks held it to a 1.5 " loss. Im getting a whop whop from driver front tire only....looked knuckles look close but not touching.

The tie rod end has a flat spot on it as well as the inner threaded barrel so that you can put a wrench on to tighten against the nut. Just tightening the nut with one wrench with the joint at it's max angle can damage it..but nice vid other than that, did mine tonight used a tie rod separator rented from AutoZone easy as pie

I’m planning to do the inner tie rods as well, now how do I go about doing it so it be as close to the way before so I can take it to the alignment shop , or should I just install and tighten it and just let the alignment tech deal with it

Not sure if you'll have any ideas about this, but thought it would be worth a try. My 2008 xterra has a loud clunk that comes from the front passenger wheel assembly ONLY when turning sharply left (not necessarily hard over) AND hitting a large bump, like a rolled curb. If I'm crawling, I don't get the clunk, so I have to hit the rolled curb with some speed. I noticed it when pulling a u-turn to park, and my right front tire bumped up onto the rolled curb while turning pretty much hard over left. This happened before I replaced the following parts and still happens now. I've replaced sway bar links, inner and outer tie rods, shocks, and springs. It has original UCAs and I believe the lower ball joints were new when I got it 50k km ago. It's a metal sounding clunk, so not bump stops. I dont get any other noises when driving, hitting bumps when going straight or turning right, or even turning easy to the left. My thoughts, due to the direction of force when the tire hits the rolled curb while turning hard left, is that there is inward force on the lower part of the tire (outward on the top), coupled with a jarring force knocking the hub assembly upwards, that it's one of the 2 ball joints. Thoughts? Thank you. Your instructional videos are great BTW

Hi Ry I have a lot of corrosion under my 02 Xterra. The front rods that connect to the wheels are very corroded. Im selling the truck & I want to make sure its safe for the next owner. A few weeks ago a brake line broke, the petal went to the floor. I had this repaired (430$) & this is when I found out the bottom was very rusted, corroded. My question is how would I fix this? The rods that come from the wheel & connect I'm assuming to steering need to be replaced. Its a 2002 we bought from the dealer in 2003 & we never did anything to cause the rust/corrosion. The Xterra looks new. Thanks for any help you can give us

Hey Ry , did you feel any difference after replacing the tie rods ? I have the same problem with my 170000 mile X.
@Rythecarguy
@Rythecarguy 6 жыл бұрын
Yea, it was a huge difference. But when you do that jab you need to do an alignment. So I’m sure the alignment was a big part of it too.

Where did you get the tie rod from, because I have a Nissan Frontier and searching for both outer and inner tie rods but there is just so many aftermarket. Which one is a good one for me to buy that will not hit my wallet that hard, but is a good quality made one that will last

Raise the vehicle, and grasp the wheel with both hands, try to move it side to side, if there is play or clunking noise, it's worn.

Hey, love the video, has a question hopefully you could answer for me. I just replaced my inner and outer tie rods on my 05 xterra, and after I finished the camber on my wheels was wayyy out of line. Do you know if something relating to the tie rod install could have done this and if an alignment will fix this?

Camber is adjusted by cam bolts. The tie rod adjusts the toe in/out.

@@bobjanikowski5497 what I know it shouldn't play like this, if it's like this it should be replaced like outer tie rod ball joint if it's playing and you move it easily by hand then it should be replaced even if the boot is ok

I have a question about my vehicle.. I had a accident with my truck I got it fixed and parts replace.. but my steering wheel is upside down even after I got the alignment.. what could I do??
@Rythecarguy
@Rythecarguy 8 жыл бұрын
It sounds like someone removed it while they were doing repairs and when they put it back on they did it backwards. You will need to get it removed and put back on. I DO NOT RECOMMEND that you take the steering wheel off yourself. It is very dangerous to work around airbags especially with tools. I would recommend just taking it to the shop that did the work and tell them that they did it wrong. Maybe they will fix it for you.
