Awesome video! 2 things I did differently: I removed the entire caliper so I didn’t have to mess with that damned spring. I also removed the 13mm bolt holding the brake fluid bracket to give me more room to remove/install the axle.

My 2002 dodge grand caravan sport is the same deal, except for one video I watched before doing my struts, is the bottom 21mm that holds the strut assembly is slotted. But the guy said to scratch a line though the bolt head, hopefully from point to point and on to the body. So you can line up the same way it came off, and it helps with keeping the alignment right. But now that I've watched your video, I can't see it matters.back to pick and pull tomorrow morning for the 2005 CV axles I loosed up today.

I learned the hard way it's wise to do the seal while in there for another 7 bucks. mine leaked after this and had to re-do. but cool vid, wanted to make sure driver side was as easy as pass side.

Good video got to do mine the torque on the cv shaft to hub nut is 180 pounds not a 118 pounds is for strut two bolts to hub so beware. Jeff

My mom owns a 1988 classic caravan. Its not running at the time but if you look at my stereo demos you can see it covered by the garage. Before she got vision problems she had my 1993 suburban that she sold me for $1200. I had to take it to a mechanic because I didn't know how to fix it it was the whole dasributor didn't even turn on when she sold it to me. It runs good now and just put my 220 amp alternator and my other 18 sub in myself wish I knew how to do more mechanic work.

I'm planning to replace both CV axles and found this to be a very informative video. Just one small point...it starts off showing the damaged boot of the removed axle before any 'how-to remove' info. I almost clicked off to go to another video as I thought I had missed the whole sequence. Might be an idea to edit that out.

Remove only the wheel and bottom bolts to the strut and axle nut. Move disc ext towards the rear of vehicle and down. Slide axle out (might be the hardest part of the repair)

After market cv axles dont have a flat spot or a groove to pry off. Gonna have to remove outer ring around cv joint attached to tranny to get a pry bar in there. Maybe a slide hammer with a vise grip like tool around shaft would work.

My strut snapped in half cuz the terrible roads where I live and it yanked the spring back, bent the control arm, possible damage to the tie rod and or rack and pinion, suprised the break line wasn't snapped. Honestly couldn't break the bolts loose on the strut so I'mma try what you did tommorow before I leave for work

Strange, I can't hammer out these two screws to the right on mine. I have a 3.3lbt heavy metal hammer, but it does not move. I'm worried about hammering it too hard. Is there anything that can break? I loosened the nut with an electric impact wrench. On the other side, I turned the screw with the electric impact wrench. However, I can't get the screw out by hammering on the tip of the screw to the right.

Really good! I'm actually replacing the passenger side of our 2005 as we had a total failure (ball bearing actually fell out of the bearing assembly). I was screwing around with my 16yr old son to illustrate to him what the clicking sound was and when slowly turning a tight left turn radius - POP - it busted completely. Perfect timing. However, I'm having a dickens of a time getting the hub nut to crack off because the cv shaft spins with the turn. Hmm. Tomorrow's project. Anyway, well done. Question though. Wasn't there supposed to be a blue plastic washer slip through the notch on the splined inner cv end -- to help seal in the transmission fluid? Asking for a friend. [I see you have a video on replacing the window motor. I'll be digging into that one as well. Not sure if it's old cracked wiring or the motor. We'll see once I have the cv axle solved and the weather warms up.] Continued success. PS I see a lot of men wearing earings. What's the meaning to that if not purely some sort of fashion statement. Curious.

Have someone press and hold the brakes while trying to turn that hub nut. There is an oil seal that can be replaced that keeps the transmission fluid in, it is not on the cv shaft, it is pressed into the transmission housing, they are around $10 and you pry out with a seal remover tool and taped in with a seal installer kit that can be rented if you want to change it due to leakage. Regarding the earring I've had mine since I was 16 and in that period in the 90's it was common practice. Good luck with your projects and thank you for watching and commenting!

Most wheels allow access to the shaft/hub nut. Crack it loose while the wheel is still on the car and on the ground Do the same when putting it back on. Get it as tight as you can off the ground then put the wheel on and lower to the ground and finish tightening.

@@robinhardison5817 I like the idea of getting it as tight as you can then setting the tire on the ground to finish it up. Flip side is breaking the nut while still on the ground then finish removing with the wheel off. Down side of both of those is that you isolate yourself that way. I think it's a good idea to incorporate co workers. Family, friends, etc. My baby girl would help me & now that she has her own babys she does the same with & is a lady of character, an awesome mother who teaches her kids to not shy away from any job. Do I sound proud? Like the song says, " fishin' ain't just about catchin' fish".

Why would you not just bust the axle nut loose with the wheel on the ground. Much easier. Also, that was the brake line, not the abs sensor

The first mistake you did is before you put in the new axle you should have put in a new seal I learned this mistake 35 years ago

I don't have a tear in my boot, but I still think it's the CV axle on the right side... I get a vibration at 45mph that increases greatly if I go up in speed. Anything under that and I'm fine. The transmission is perfect, shifts with no problem. Engine is perfect not even a small hesitation/misfire at any rpm... Why I think it might be a CV axle is because the vehicle has sat for a very long period of time with not much usage. I have driven it 15 to 20 miles within the last 6 months, with no problems at all, but it has sat pretty much unused for over 2 years now... If anyone on this thread has some suggestions for how I can determine if it's the CV axle when there's no rip in the boot or other distinguishable signs, i'd be very appreciative..

Did you ever figure it out? Often times you can hear the cv click if turning tight, I typically put window down in parking lot, making tight circles in reverse and listen for clicking.
