@@The_Gap_Lap Cheers, got it done but what nightmare lol. Had to hammer old unit out of bottom bracket, then grind inside of bracket to fit new one. Still have a few dash lights on, but it's charging at least. Thanks again.

Thanks for the hiace repair videos. I have had the alternator fail twice in last 4 years. Both times I took it to mechanics to replace, because I though access was too difficult. I did not know if access was from top or bottom. The second time it failed suddenly while driving on a Friday night, about 200 km from home. I got towed to local town and was stuck for the weekend waiting for mechanics to open.

I know some people do replace them from underneath by removing all the required bits, but in my opinion going from the top seems more logical. I also don’t have a hoist so that limits options too. This is the second alternator I’ve fitted, both had bearing whines. I found the bolt which the alternator pivots on was a mm or two smaller than the holes in the alternator, meaning once the belt is tightened there is a chance the alternator could become slightly misaligned. Couldn’t find a better fitting bolt, and short of time, so it went back in. Looked factory.
