Great vid Dustin I didn't have to remove my tub filler spout. I just laid on my back with a headlamp. I took a flat blade screwdriver from underneath and splayed the nylon latch-fingers apart and pulled up on the diverter knob on top of the tub filler. The nylon part with the diverter rubber washer seal slid down and out the bottom of the spout. I replaced the washer with a Draco "TUB SPOUT DIVERTER REPAIR KIT" from depot. I just used the NEW rubber washer seal and re-used the other original parts; lift rod and nylon diverter gate. My old rubber washer seal had a notch out of it.

seems pretty straight forward and easy enough to do with one hand, i just moved into a new house went to take my first shower and the diverter is seized in the down position so i ordered a new spout from amazon but living on a relatively remote island in the north atlantic in canada the prime free 2 day shipping is more like 10 days so ive got 5 more days. next step is the rotted floors which i see you have a video on that too the toilet leaks between the tank and bowl when flushed which has rotted the floor around it causing the toilet to lean 3 degrees to the left so i just put down towels to soak up the water and got a seniors cammode / toilet seat riser to put over it so im not putting any weight on the toilet itself and the toilet stopped leaking when flushed but the whole back half of the house is falling off

Just curious, I know you didn't say anything about shutting the main water supply off to change out this threaded diverter, nor did you say anything about turning it back on when you put it back on. I'm about to change one out at an apartment complex that has to have the entire building shut off, if I need to cut one water supply it's the whole building. I need to be absolutely certain that that's okay, to just spin the diverter off and take off, while leaving the main water supply on -which to me doesn't seem correct at all, but possibly it is. I'm just an amateur plumber. But it absolutely was not spoken of in this video one way or the other. So I just wanted to take this time to ask since I'll be doing this in the next couple of days. Please let me know if the main water supply needs to be shut off before proceeding with this replacement. Thank you

Hi Laura some of the stubborn ones can be tricky. Double check and make sure there isn’t a set screw underneath then they should spin off. Be prepared that you may need to replace that piece of copper pipe. A plumber my tried to use his torch and heat up the spout a little bit to get it to spin off. I hope this helps and good luck

Hey Cb. Probably not, they may have a half inch discussion that builds out of the diverter but most are 3 1/2 off of the wall, don’t let cutting the pipe intimidate you. You can simply use an imp cutter to cut off the fitting and then they have compression diverters that fit right on. You got this

There was no need to take the tub spout apart. Don’t twist the spout before loosening the set screw. That will score the copper to much. And tape off the spout before caulking, then remove the tape after smoothing the caulk. This leaves a better look.
