Great video. To remove that breather cover hoses it is good to have this tool: Knipex 3891200. From my case i want to say that removing them without spacial tool is very difficult.

I find with super low torque settings feeling by hand is the best way, but this method is down to experience. I have broken a couple of these screws with a stupid 1/4” torque wrench. So I just go with hand tight by feel with small screws. Good job.

Hi, I'm about to do this job on my SL55 and was wondering if you have any additional updates and tips since you originally made the video. I found your video to be really good and easy to follow. I would have like to have seen how you dealt with the fuel line. It seems that most have had to remove the fuel line to get the cover off and I don't really want any 'surprises'. BTW.. I was quoted a cost for $1,300 for this job from the local Mercedes stealership.

Man do I WISH you owned a m272 equipped Benz & had to do vcg (sealant actually) on that. Had there been a vid this great, (or a video at all for that matter) on that job, I wouldn't have to take it in for the left side. Right side wasn't too bad, but I'd rather not mess with the fuel rail on the left. Once again, great vid & am still in shock how little you had to move & how much my m272 has in the way.

Hi, great job, will do it at spring time. Do you put a dielectric or a conduction grease between ignition coil and valve cover?
@sewshiestrip Жыл бұрын
Alldata specifies 10Nm for the valve cover bolts. That is for an S55, but I can't imagine it would be different for other M113k applications.

Any video to how to do breather covers ? Are new screws mandatory ? Do you usually do breather covers once you’re already there ? Thanks !
@bigqwertycat Жыл бұрын
New screws are mandatory. They're one time use and not expensive. The headache is drilling out a broken bolt is more expensive than 5 screws.
@bilaltariq7819 Жыл бұрын
@@bigqwertycat they aren't stretch bolts, replacing them makes no sense
@bigqwertycat Жыл бұрын
@@bilaltariq7819 the small hex screws must be replaced as they are stainless steel or aluminum. The larger e torx screws can be reused.

thats good same with m112k engine, 8nm on bolts are preety small, if you have some oil pot just slighty tighten bolts, nothing bad happend

Hi quick question id appreciate it if you could reply i got a issue with my cls55 currently it basically lets out blue smoke only when I accelerate so therefore its not loosing any oil as it remains the same. I was wondering if there is slight leak in cover gasket could this be the cause ?
@jrjames93853 жыл бұрын
I doubt that would be from a valve cover leak. That sound s more internal, like oil is getting pass the rings, enough to get that smoke under more pressure but not enough to have a noticeable drop in oil. I would get that checked out with someone who can scope the inside. Get a better idea of what's happening inside.

@curlymyhero7 ай бұрын
I did my S55 on both sides. This is important bcuz oil drips on spark plugs thus shorting them out. My car ran alot quicker after that. Also used hi-temp silicone sealer on gaskets

Good work bro looking to do this on my cls55 but have no mechanic skills lol when you unplug the spark plugs do you have to replace those?
@WestVanGarage4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! You can if you want to. I chose not to since the spark plugs/coil packs/wires work fine.
@JCKICKS2134 жыл бұрын
West Van Garage ok got it, I thought once you disconnect the spark plugs they don’t work no more? So you just normally pull them out and that’s it? Can you possibly text me just Incase I have any further questions through the process?
@WestVanGarage4 жыл бұрын
@@JCKICKS213 Feel free to send me message on instagram if you have any questions (@westvangarage). I actually never took the spark plugs out, they were left inside. I did however unplug the wires leading to them (2:41). You don't need to unplug the wires, especially if they're really stuck in place, but it gives you some more room. Hope that helps.

Very informative. Did you say 8nm for the valve cover E10 bolts? and 4nm for the 2 "breather Caps" on top of the valve covers. Do you torque them when valve cover is installed on the engine. Thanks very much.
@WestVanGarage5 жыл бұрын
Yep, 8nm for the E10 bolts and 4nm for the breather caps. You can torque on the breather caps when the valve cover is installed. I chose to do it right before. Doesn't really matter, as long the valve cover is dry, and the breather cover has sealant applied to it.

@WestVanGarage5 жыл бұрын
If you're a good mechanic, shouldn't take longer than ~1.5-2hrs. I really took my time with this, I'd say it took me about 3 hrs or so. Most of time is spent waiting on the valve cover and breather covers to dry thoroughly, if you choose to clean them.

I think so, I'm not much of a mechanic myself so I think the average person can do it if they have the tools. One tricky part might be if there is seized bolts around the valve cover, so be careful when it comes to that.

I know what you mean, considering how expensive things are in BC. Unfortunately, I don't know any mechanics personally who are based in Victoria. Are you looking for a Mercedes mechanic? Your best bet might be to ask on Facebook groups or forums.
