Great video on how to do these gasket replacements. The only thing i can recommend is that when you remove the valve covers is to check the camshaft bearing cap bolts and retorque them, they will come loose on the Ford 3.0L engines as the vehicle ages and cause some major problems if they become too loose or break off. Beware ! Also while you were this far into removing alot of the components go ahead and replace the water pump and belt also cause you are right there at it if you vehicle has high mileage on it , water pumps are cheap so are those little belts. May save some headaches on down the road.

@@dyerdavis5956 I did mine over a few days. One thing I noticed on mine was the oil dipstick had to be removed. There was no other way to maneuver the cover between that and the fuel injector harness. The grommets on the bolts takes a very long time to remove.

Don't forget while you have them off, retorque the cam bearing bolts. They are known to loosen or event break sometimes causing engine replacement usually.

Thanks for this video. For my 2012 ford escape v6 3.0l, After everything is put together the torqued to factory spec of 9ft lb , there is a 2.5mm spacing all around the valve cover and the engine head with fel-pro gasket sandwiched in between two. Is this 2.5mm space normal?

Agreed. Mine was the Mazda Tribute, so plastic valve covers is the only difference I think. But I found it almost impossible to get the valve covers off once they were free, because they both kept getting stuck on the timing chain. Same thing going back on, too

What were you showing in the purple mirror?? Was part of the rear valve cover gasket leaking? And you were replacing it anyway? Or was this something else that need a new gasket ?? Mine is leaking oil on the exhaust manifold also, hard to tell if it is on the front or rear gasket though. Thanks

Good video. Just curious, what brand, and kind of sealant did you use for the corners of the gasket where the valve cover seats on the head, and how long did you have to wait before it dried to install the covers back on, and start the engine?

Ohio Texas boy Schlabach The radiator was leaking coolant so I figured if I’m replacing the radiator I’ll just go ahead and do the valve cover gaskets tune up and pcv valve as well since I was there. And had things taken apart. No cooling or overheating issues. Just a old plastic leaky radiator.

I really appreciate this video. I have one of these cars it’s a Mercury Mariner tho. This car has to be one of the biggest piles of junk I’ve ever owned. I hate everything about except the power of the engine. Everything is just cheap junky plastic and it rides like garbage. The front end sounds like it’s falling apart when I hit the slighted road imperfection. The wheel wells are rusting and I’ve done everything in my power to prevent rust. The road noise is unbearable as well. I really just overall dislike this vehicle. I do not suggest this vehicle to anybody looking for a used car. The engineering is atrocious and the gas mileage is sub-par for the size of the vehicle. But thanks for this informative video. I’m trying to tackle the issues one by one since money is tight. Sorry for the rant but Jesus ,this car is junk front to back. Waiting for the famous PTU failure... I’ve got the whining noise starting..
@ATEMOFFROAD

donovo hang in there, here’s some perspective.. the 3.0 is a decent engine . Keeping up to date on your oil and fluid changes on Both the. Engine and transmission can really keep the escape alive. My escape has taken a beating and is at 210,xxxx miles still running strong. If the cost to replace the transmission was lower I would invest in a new power train to double the miles it has now. You are right on the suspension. It’s a bumpy noisy ride , but every car has there engineered flaws . -Cheers

You didn't even show removing the front valve cover except to lose the 18mm bolt for the bracket that is in the way. There is a lot more to it than that pal. Valve cover bolts closest to radiator are extremely hard to get out. Some info there would be nice pal

Thanks for watching. This video is not for everyone! This video has been streamlined to give you what you need to get the job done. If you can remove the rear cover you can easily remove the front. Also please I advise if you can’t watch this video and figure out how to do this job I would recommend do not attempt to do this kind of own work on your you vehicle and to send to a shop where a professional can fix your problems. Thanks

@@carlos52321 yeah, that thing really had to move one way or another. I almost gave up trying to use a harbor freight impact to take it off, ended up that it was just weak and using a ratchet with a pipe on the end was just enough to break the bolt loose. And even then it kept getting stuck on the timing chain and I think an AC line or something.
