D30hp you don’t spread it past .015 you really want to be around .012-.013 spreading to .020 is way to far
@ATEMOFFROADКүн бұрын
@@ChrisLawley43 interesting I’m looking right here in the Spicer service manual for D30 says “Do not spread carrier over .020” (.50mm). Use dial indicator. It’s possible you may have an updated revision. Read from Bulletin No. 5325 So you are good 👍🏼 🍻

I talked to several people including a guy in a Facebook group I’m in who works for Yukon that said dana says .015 max spread.oxlocker I installed told me the same do not spread more than .015. Did you use a case spreader for your final install?
@ATEMOFFROADКүн бұрын
@@ChrisLawley43 for final I really can’t remember, but usually case spreader alone is never enough, where you will still have the need to drive carrier into the case. I do know that the carrier I used was from a low pinion which was made for numerically higher gears.
@ChrisLawley43Күн бұрын
@@ATEMOFFROADthe point of a case spreader is to spread to .015 or close to it and have it fit tight so you have proper carrier bearing preload driving it in, with no case spreader you don’t know if you are getting proper carrier bearing preload.
@ATEMOFFROADКүн бұрын
@@ChrisLawley43 yes and no, spreader is designed for ease of installation and removal of the carrier, and can also assist in the feel for a pre determined carrier bearing preload. Carrier falls in and out it’s likely there is no preload. in this video carrier bearing preload is already determined by the previous two housings taken apart. The measurements taken from both housings shim stacks prove this, yes it’s possible bearing tolerances could change, but it’s not dramatic as the new and use bearings are the exact manufacturer and part number. Total rotational torque is the proper way to check carrier bearing preload. I discussed this at the end of my Dana 44 overhaul regear video. If you Change the carrier (ox, Yukon, arb) ect the deck hight and bearing seats can be totally different, additional steps will need to be taken to properly set new carriers bearing preload. This is done by building a total shim stack off calculating total rotational torque measurements. an easy way to tell if you have the proper preload on the side bearings a formula fallows. Total preload (in/lbs. with the unit totally assembled) minus the pinion bearing preload (with only the pinion assembly) multiplied by the gear ratio = side bearing preload. If your total preload is 32 in/lbs - pinion preload of 25 in/lbs = 7 in/lbs x ratio of 3.73 = 26.11 in/lbs side bearing preload

This video popped up on my feed so I thought I'd check it out. Please take all feedback as positive feedback, not criticism. Good job on taking on a project like this! 1. Clamshell puller- When using a clamshell puller, the two adjustable beveled pieces go inside the clam. The bottom one flat side down to hold the race to the bearing, the other beveled side to match the clam. This is what keeps the bearing from getting damaged. The way you had it allows the clam to pull against the cage and deform it making it unusable. 2. Setup bearings/races- you mentioned it at the end, but I always recommend using brand new and the same brand for best results. Used bearings do nothing but cause frustration! 3. Race driver- The race drive should be used with the flat side, not the beveled side. The bevel does not match the bevel of the race. 4. Pinion shims- wait to establish your pinion preload until you are finished with the setup. Get your depth, backlash, and pattern where you want it first. This save a TON of time and headache. You also don't have to torque the nut to a high value, rather tighten it until you get to 16-20 in/lbs. Then you can run a pattern. After all is said and done, then establish your pinion preload. 5. Carrier install- if you are using a case spreader, then you shouldn't have to hammer it in the way you did. The spreader allows you to place the carrier in with minimal resistance. When you release the case spreader then the preload is applied. When you AREN'T using a spreader, then a bunch of whacks with the deadblow is appropriate to get it in the housing. 6. Carrier install #2- When installing your carrier, put the thin shims in between the thicker shims, and then the thinner toward the bearings. When installing, install with the shim on the bearing, not in the housing. It's way too easy to bend them that way or have the backside fold behind the bearing where you can't see it. The more of these you do, the more you will learn about the small ins and outs of setting up gears. I have a bunch of videos on my channel that cover things like the clamshell puller, using special tools, etc. Good luck with your channel!

Dude what are you talking about not worth it? The aluminum radiator should be better than the stock radiator. For one it holds a larger capacity on a 3 row and 4 row even more and its all aluminum construction, no plastic parts like the the stock radiator that over time the end tanks will crack cause leaks no like an aluminum plus once the plastic end tank radiator breaks or leaks its done which basically trashed. For an aluminum if it does leak it can be repaired and taken to a radiator shop that can weld the leaks shut. The aftermarket performance aluminum radiator has a better cooling efficiency over the stock factory radiator. You say that your aluminum radiator leaks that can be fixed also it depends the quality of the radiator where you purchased it from. Looks like you purchase off Ebay so you get what you pay for. You need to look what type of aluminum material was used in the radiator and how its welded. There are high quality aluminum radiators and poor cheap quality aluminum radiator. It depends whats on your budget how much you wanna spend for one.
@ATEMOFFROAD9 күн бұрын
@@1998gst4611 eBay radiators are junk, never buy them. there is zero reason to replace a 20 year old lasting OEm radiator especially on a stock engine to boot, for a 4 or 3 core genuine USA made all aluminum radiator for 500+ dollars your wasting your money is what I’m saying! don’t believe me read the articles in the description.
