Great video, but for those attempting to do this: it’s not always as easy as it looks on this video. I replaced the solenoids on 2 of my cars. A Z4 coupe and E60 530i on the Z4 it went relatively easy, on the E60 it was an absolute nightmare. It took me hours to get the bottom solenoid in. Used oil to lubricate, tried the old rubber o-ring, nothing helped. Ended up removing the metal piece that go over the radiator to get a bit more leverage, still a nightmare tho. On my E46 M52tü I replaced the VANOS seals + rattle bearings and although way more steps in that process, I would rather do that again then ‘just’ changing the solenoids on N52

great vid... though i'd add one minor step and give the electrical plugin a good shot of cleaner when you first disconnect - it'll be dry a few minutes later
@E39520IAАй бұрын
I would like to add, that sometimes the new vanos does not go in! When the engine is old, there will be corrosion on the flange/hole, where the vanos valve goes in. So in order to get it done, you need to take a small piece of sanding paper (200) and sand the round hole, so that it is smooth again. Before you put in the new part, you should also remove the new rubber seal from the vanos, and place it into the hole on the engine. Then lubricate the new vanos part and slide it in like pro. Thank me later ;-).

many thanks for the short yet so clear video, is it the same orientation of vanos on an N45N /316i european E90 sedan? you made look quite easy to replace, as for my sons E90 he has same symptoms as in video, but better diagnose first to make sure, and please advice if cleaning them would do the engine any better, cheers
@mikes.garage2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching! Yes, the same orientation for 316i, just a different solenoid. Cleaning may give you temporarily effect, but not going to fix the problem. The best way to fix this problem to replace vanos solenoid and make sure to buy BMW original solenoid, as other brands may not work correctly and not last long.

Hi, I'm preparing to "test" the state of VANOS solenoids by removing and cleaning them and I'll get new ones if they are faulty. Is there any pre-removal procedure to do (like there is with the valvetronic motor for example)?? Thanks :)
@mikes.garage Жыл бұрын
Hi, no pre-removal procedure required. Cleaning the solenoid is temporary solution.

what could a faulty solenoid do, because i got a code that i have a fault on my solenoid and i was wondering, is it the reason my car has bad fuel consumption and my car feels slower like throttle response is bad

looks like my n52 engine has only one solenoid valve, have engine diagrams and there is only one, interestingly how come? Is that one for intake, exhaust or both
@mikes.garage2 жыл бұрын
The engine diagrams show only one because intake and exhaust solenoids are the same. But you will see that you have two of them.

I have a N52 E90 with 90K miles. Should I replace these solenoids proactively or wait for some symptoms (what?). Why did something that is not broken is good policy usually. But does it apply here.
@mikes.garage Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't replace it. If engine running smoothly and no any symptoms, why touch it? If you want to replace it anyway, buy only original BMW solenoid, as all aftermarket solenoids not lusting long and not working correctly.
