Thank you for this ! I just rescued a monsters plant that had been neglected for a bit . It was massive and looked lush when I got it but I think it got shock from a 2 hr car ride and new environment. It was bone dry when I got it so I gave it a generous watering and have the leaves turned yellow ! This video has given me inspiration to repot it and that’s there is hope . I’m not sure if someone else responded - the little things growing off are aerial roots . 💚 🌱 happy planting 🪴

You did a beautiful job. She looks so happy now. They like their roots more crowded, only 1-2 inches space betweenthe root ball and pot. If you had used the next size up, the soil would have stayed too wet and caused root rot.

This is such a great video, thank you! Perhaps my monstera has hope, it’s also looking pretty sad and I’m getting ready to repot it, hope it goes as well as yours did! The transformation is amazing!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 One thing I’ve learned & wanted to share that if you repot yours again into a bigger size, it will keep getting bigger vs if you leave it where it is, it will get fuller but the climbing and overall size will level off. So really it just depends on how big you want it and how much space you have.

I guess others have already answered your question, but those things that you point out toward the end of the video are air roots. The monstera actually uses them, to cling on to other plants, as it actually looks like a vine in the wild. Also, the split leaves are from stalks that are more mature. Immature leaves do not have splits.

@Marsha Eileen Hey there! You could actually put them back into the soil. It takes in nutrients and water. You could leave them where they are, or you could put in a moss pole in your pot and train them to grow toward the pole, which in turn trains the plant to grow upwards be cause it's originally a climbing plant in it's habitat that likes to climb trees!
@ibelca2b8 ай бұрын
Hi! Some one already suggested the moss pole. The plant also needs bright sunlight that will give the little hole on the leaves . Once in a while bring it to the shower or when it rains bring it out side. There are videos to show you where to cut the leaves. Use a humidifier your plant will be happy in its own habitat. I love Montera. Don’t cut them that will help the plant to grow tall and climb

Loved the video! I thought the splits occur when the plant is exposed to the right amount of light.
@maplejubilee2 жыл бұрын
I remember someone at the garden store telling me that the splits are already pre-determined before the leaf blooms. So naturally you will have some with and without splits. I love it because each new leaf is a surprise.
@Mischa808 Жыл бұрын
The older the plant gets the top leaves, if given the right amount of South or West facing light, will open with fenestration slots already in them. This allows lower leaves to still get sun, if they were growing natively in their jungle habitat. New leaves growing without slips after cutting is a sign the plant is recalibrating. Fenestration will start again with good light and the leaves aging some more. Good luck with that beauty. You did well. Try a coir pole, or a wood stick or trellis. Moss poles can mildew easily and that's another problem

Mine looked like yours…maybe a little worse. It just wasn’t getting enough light, I think, and was ina standard potting mix. I unpotted it earlier in the summer and threw away what couldn’t be salvaged - got three good size cuttings, which have rooted and look ok. I think I’ll just keep them in their little pots over the winter and then pot them all together in the spring in aroid mix spring in an orchid pot. With a moss pole maybe. Plants that grow like philodendrons and monsteras need good air circulation to their roots.

Those growths are roots. Monsteras will naturally grow up other trees using them for support, similar to a vine or ivy. Those roots will grip into the grooves in tree bark giving support and catching water running down the tree trunk.
@maplejubilee2 жыл бұрын
Oh wow!! That's interesting. So since there aren't any trees beside it, what will happen to them? Will they just continue to grow outside and down the sides of the pot?
@petebeaty87122 жыл бұрын
@@maplejubilee as the aerial roots get longer...just redirect them back into the soil and they will provide structural support for the plant...as well as form soil roots for nutritional support of the upper leaves.
