Thank you. I just got my first sets of Lithops. This video had helped me alot to understand how to care for them. I am currently living in the Netherlands and our weather is not always ideal for growing succulents so I try my best to keep my soil as airy as possible.

I started growing my first Lithops. I’ve watched plenty of videos on this topic and found yours to be most helpful. Judging by the health of your plants , I used your gritty soil mixture formula (ok, something very similar) I live in Central Valley NorCalifornia, I believe the weather is ideal for these plants. I love your collection, too bad your in Australia, I would purchase from you. I enjoy your Lithops Videos. Thank you😎🇺🇸

I just received bare-root lithops in the mail. Should I plant them in moistened soil or plant in dry soil? If in dry soil, how long should I wait to water them? It’s now February where I live, in North America, and the plants will live indoors.

My Lithops are growing and I think they need to be repotted. Do i pot each one or keep them all together? There seem to be 8 plants in a 3x3 pot. 17:05
@johnnyAGardening Жыл бұрын
We guess you have grown them from seed, 8 in a 3x3 pot is a bit crowded. so we would divide them. You could put them in individual pots, one large pot or in groups in say 3 pots. - It depends on the look you want.

Have been struggling with my lithops for 3or 4 years. Live in inland southern Calif. I think it’s when to water. At least they are alive but they aren’t growing in size. Any tips anyone. They r in a greenhouse
@johnnyAGardening3 жыл бұрын
Hello Sandy, you are in similar climate to ours, however we are in Australia. Great to here form you, we have a bit of a love of California, especially your surfing, wine and also your firefighters who have help save our bacon a few times..... Video coming soon on watering Lithops, However, first thing is make sure it is not to humid in the greenhouse, good airflow is a must. Just quickly, very little to no water in summer, just enough to stop them desiccating. Fall Autumn, they start to open up and flower, its time to water. The body of the plant should feel firm. Winter, they are starting to molt and maybe divide so very little water as they absorb the nutrients and leaves from old leaves. Spring after the old leaves have dried off, water every two weeks always allowing the soil to dry a fair bit between watering. NEVER OVER WATER Stay safe and if you have any further questions let us know.

I live in the Central Valley in NorCal. Zone 9b. I’m a novice and tried my first lithops I bought from Home Depot. I keep my Lithops outside partial sun under a pergola. I use gritty soil, mostly pumice, crushed granite and potting mix. In the summer, (90s to low 100s) I water ones a month or when I see it needs watering. The water just goes thru the gritty mix, then dries in the warm weather. Btw, I got the soil mixture from these Aussies since they’re at ‘expert Level’ I wish they’re local, they have lovely, healthy varieties. You mentioned you grow them in a greenhouse. I’ve seen videos, of Lithops growers from Florida, i think it’s the humidity that’s a challenge to these plants. I believe Cali weather (temp) is ideal for growing Lithops. My 2 cents 😎

How can I save lithops which start rottening? Plse hlp me
@johnnyAGardening3 жыл бұрын
It can be difficult after they start to rot, usually caused by overwatering, high humidity or potting mix that is not free draining, You need to dry them out, so out of the potting mix they are in leave them in a shaded position for a few days and then into a very free draining potting mix. No water for a few weeks and then only a little and once. Water no more than once a month, You will need some luck to get them to recover.

Yes, we do say end of February Early March at the beginning of the video, so thats end of summer. The Cycle in the Southern Hemisphere (where Lithops come from ) is • Spring - the three transition months September, October and November. • Summer - the three hottest months December, January and February. • Autumn - the transition months March, April and May. Rest are winter

The colours are real, these plants come from many years of breeding by a renowned Japanese collector . Perhaps mention to the nursery that they are selected forms and hybrids from the collection of Mr Shimada Very rare hybrids and selected forms from line breeding, it would be Interesting to know which nursery told you that. The late Mr Yasuhiko Shimada has a son who has taken over the business.

Hi there I have a question about seeds, I've had about a 15% success rate with my seeds, would you say thats normal?
@johnnyAGardening3 жыл бұрын
It really does depend on the seed and the species. However 15% seems low. Remember that some seeds are slower than others and can take longer to germinate, older seeds may not be as viable, so check how old the seeds are. Always keep them going for at least 12 months after sowing.

All of this is so unnatural to where lithops grow in their natural habit,it's a shame it has been so commercialized! Give it to the Japanese to hybridize any plant,some of this plants do not even look remotely like the original species! Some of the original species are depleted in their natural habitats by unscrupulous overseas collectors,who paid poor locals to take them from their habitats - what a shame! Most people do not even know what their actual habitat looks like. The potting mix are definitely not the same as the soil in their habitat. I'm from South-Africa, and grew up with lithops,am also a big lover of them. Their cultivation outside of Namibia and South-Africa ,the only places where they are indigenous. Wish that the cultivation outside of our countries of origin was stopped,but due to our government of today,it was never stopped,they just don't care about anything! It's indigenous to our country,most places overseas are not suitable for growing lithops,otherwise it would have been found there. Most people know nothing about their cultivation,and will only kill it in the end! Australia has such strict border control,and no foreign material can even enter their "precious" country,it absurd that they can exploit ,and,cultivate,and sell our indigenous plants! Two faced to say the least! Growing Lithop is tricky,and hard,most will die within a short period of time,it's only the sellers of this unique plants that will make money in the end!

why is this guy so obessed with trying to make it sound like his fancy for this or that feature is some sort of innate property of the thing, "superior" over and over. just say whatever features you're trying to select for, it's art, just do it, doesn't have to be inherently the best way.
