The good news: the Hulcher guys are really good at this. Watching them unload and set up is like watching a well choreographed dance. The bad news: I’ve been told that Hulcher charges $10,000 or more just to bring out their equipment and then charges by the hour for the work.

Very expensive way to rerail. We did it "back in the day" with a locomotive, a set of rerailers, a few oak blocks and wedges and two men for instances where the rail was still intact. This appears to be a siding or spur incident.

Thank You for watching! This was more than a derail, the axle broke so they had to replace a wheel set. I did not shoot the whole thing it would have been about 3 hrs long

Agree, except for the rerailers. We didn’t have those. The steel mill I worked at went from 1 derailment in 24 hours, to 3 in an 8 hour shift. This all because to save money, they got rid of maintenance! Sometimes a derailment would be 5 cars. Where it used to to take 13 years to become an engineer, they changed to plant wise seniority, now it took 4 weeks. So when the engineer would feel the train slowing down, “for no reason”, they’d open the throttle up more! So now instead of just 1 car derailed, we’d have 5. But they’re saving money!

Thats the way we did it also. I learned alot from the ole guys.Big cable came in handy for straightening the trucks when required. Always had those cables stashed at toolhouses along the R of W. They came in handy on more than a few occasions.

Thank You, for watching! Well it looks like it did! However I deleted most of it otherwise this would have been well over 2 hrs long. 98% of people would not watch a video that long.

Incredible waste of time and money but this is what it is when you take everything away from Carmen to squeeze another dollar out of having less manpower.
