I was never a plant person until I lost my big sister this past March. At her celebration of life, my mom decided to give away tiny plants because my sister loved plants. Her house looked like a jungle, lol. I decided to grab one, not knowing anything about it or what it was, but when I got it home, I took care of it and got it to grow into a nice teenager. It is a dieffenbachia, and she now has many plant friends that I've managed to keep alive. I used to be a horrible plant mom. Who knew I had a green thumb lol, or maybe my sister is watching over me, and the little voice I hear telling me it's too soon to water is just her looking out.

I love doing plant rescues, would love to see you do these on a regular basis. Go in to your store and find one to rescue, then take us on the journey to bring it back to full health.

I saved the exact same plant from a grocery store last month. Poor thing was in the freezer aisle all alone. It had a leaf completely dropped that I planned to cut off, but I watered it and it miraculously came right back. I must have got there just in time! He’s completely revived now.

Hey everyone, I have a baby sequin diffenbachia. Mine hated the grow light and did nothing for 4 months. I finally moved him and he is starting to grow. They are toxic, remember everyone. Peace.

They're woodland plants - tropical-ish - and don't need as much light intensity as one might think. As a last resort, it's possible to section the stems and treat them as cuttings, by laying them on their sides in warm compost, with the 'eyes' facing up, although the sap is pretty acrid and care needs to be taken. Takes a bit longer than twenty weeks, unless it's one of the BIG species.

I really appreciate all your plant knowledge. I'm a newbie to plants but am determined to be successful. Also, I use a small chopstick like poker to loosen the dirt around the roots.

I got mailed a dog's dinner of the same species. I cut off half those new leaves and placed under brighter light. A second round of new leaves came in bigger and now it just keeps going.

I almost killed schindapsus once. I was at my fiance's hometown, and I had a side project to renovate my fiance's parent house garden pond. I order schindapsus from my hometown via marketplace, and to save delivery cost, I separated the order to 8 delivery orders. But, I set the wrong address for 1 order, it was sent to my house at my hometown. It was inside cardboard box that tightly packed for 3 weeks, and I hold my breath when I unboxed the package (I thought it would be rotten). Surprisingly it was (barely) alive! It was very dry though. I cleaned the root from soil and then submerged the root in water for 4 days. Andd it still alive until today 😂

Just a thought.... Lately at our big store (bunnings, Western Australia) I've been noticing the plants are pretty dry, including the indoor ones. Dry and LIGHT. I wondered if they were allowing them to dry out a good bit before transport so they weren't so heavy= less fuel consumption. They travel over 400 km minimum to get to our country town. Might also explain why so many plants have been buy-to-die again lately.

Nice job! Could you try adding the mycorrhiza to see if it makes a difference? I'm thinking of adding it to my baby plants to make them grow faster.

Out of the 30 plants I have 20 are rescues from Lowes ,walmart. on death door. But are thriving now. I don't do well with plants I have bought from actual plant stores, they are the ones that die.😂

A friend of mine just gave me a bunch of cuttings and I did what I thought was right by putting them in a nice soil mixture with plenty of pea light and setting them in a sunny spot however, now I’m thinking that maybe I should have let the cuttings root in water first?? I’m new to this please help!

You don't find that if you bring a plant (damaged or otherwise) home and do so many drastic changes to its environment all at once, that it doesn't increase the stress on the plant? If you know it's suffering from lack of water, why not just water it for a few weeks, give it a chance to adapt a little, then do a soil change?

Unless it died from insects - I've tossed plants when I've been fighting an infestation over and over, and they won't go away -

I agree. I was fighting thrips I think. I tossed 4 plants and saved my monstera by removing from soil and washing thoroughly with the garden hose, including the roots until the plant was bare naked. I repotted and kept using a lint roller in the leaves for 2 months…I think I got them fingers crossed

I thought that Diffenbachias had white sap that would seep out when cut. I didn’t notice it when you cut the leaves. I’m not surprised with the dryness. Do you have a Maranta? I have one that is doing very well but now taking over and creeping along the sideboard. Would love to have a video on propagation to start off a smaller one from scratch.

Is that a type of calathea?
@Marilyn100w
@Marilyn100w 7 сағат бұрын
@ I just googled and got the answer yes but no! “Are Calathea and Maranta the same? Okay, one question asked often is if the Calathea and Maranta are the same plants. The answer is NO. But both of these plants belong to the Marantaceae family, but even in the same family, they have different growing to similar needs.” Mine is a Maranta Leuconeura also known as a prayer plant and is spreading about 16” across the surface of the tabletop. It needs controlling!
