Had the same issue, got my airpods pro gen1 as 2ndhand with expired coverage, took it to apple store, had to be there 3 times until they decided to just give me a new one, and a gen2 airpod pros. I don’t know if it’s a company policy or was just the manager’s decision, but give it a try, I’m 100% sure apple wouldn’t be able to find a way to fix it even resetting it a thousand times.

Unfortunately this reset does not allow for the precision finding. I bought a pair of airpod pro 2 refurbished from amazon but the find my is locked to the “previous owner” so i cannot use the precision find. I’m returning the refurbished and just buying it new from apple so that the icloud lock will be gone because the precision find is one of the main reasons i wanted the airpod pro 2s over the other airpods.

Make sure you are CONNECTED to the AirPods before you try to reset it because IT WILL NOT WORK! I tried it when I wasn’t connected with my iPhone and still came as someone else’s AirPods. So first connect AND ONLY THEN you can press the button on the back of the AirPods until the amber light turns on. I hope this helps !

This video is basically lying, following these steps does not factor reset, you need to follow these steps first and then once your phone is connected THEN follow the steps again, only then will it reset to your device and automatically change the name to let you know it was done correctly. Then try looking for the AirPods one FindMy and you should see them
