My first introduction of the DMC - 12 was in photographs. Sometime around 1981-82, my dad traveled to the hills of California and snapped photos of a DeLorean parked curbside LA. I’ve admired this car ever since, especially the gull-wing doors. Over the years I’ve had the privilege to get close and see this wedge shaped vehicle several times. As I’ve learned more about the man and machine best known as DeLorean, I grew greater respect for his contributions to the automobile industry.

They left out a bunch of stuff. Did they get rid of all the rust on the suspension parts, or leave it. Did they replace all the rubber bushings, shocks, bearings, etc. ? The underside of that unit looked in pretty bad shape. You could tell it had been sitting somewhere a very long time. Rust all over, including inside the fuel tank.

@HollywoodF15 жыл бұрын
I've done a lot of research and I knew before I saw this that it was possible to restore one. The company that did this restoration, DeLorean Motor Company of Texas, has a branch location here in California. So I cousulted with them, bought a decent DeLorean that needed all the mechanical love that the one in this video did, but the interior and body were excellent. So I got the work done and it's the only car I've driven every day for the last 4 months. I kept my other car, and I'm feeling really guilty about driving it a few miles every 2 weeks. So what do we learn from this video? If you don't have one to restore, buy one. These folks will restore it. Then you'll drive a super unique and fun car that happens to be a super famous celebrity every day and it's amazing.

I bought one that was in good shape but had been sitting for 15 years. These same people went through it and changed out the rubber bushings and hoses, and the little parts that are better today like fuel pump, alternator, water pump. Since then, it’s been like owning a normal car. I’ve driven it daily for over 5 years now with no problems. Remarkable for a 40 year old car.

@@skittlesbutwithchocolatein2274 i think the issue was that delorean wanted a rugged v6 they could turbocharge. they got that but the turbocharged model never came out. It was Winter 2016, I was visiting my brother and it was in the parking lot of a shopping mall... evidently being used as a daily driver. The chassis of cars aren't just infinitely strong to the point that you could drop any level of power in and the chassis would do fine. A Hellcat motor would tear this car limb from limb. It only weighs as much as a Ford Fiesta. About 350 bhp is where this chassis maxes out. But with that, weighing as little as it does, it would be a very fast car. It would be more or less a Cayman GT4.
