In this video, I restore a Keen Kutter no.6. This particular tool and the company that made it has a very interesting and unique history behind it, which I cover later on. I would like to thank TimeTestedtools.net for allowing me to use some of the images from the website. Please take a few minutes and check out the website regarding Hand tool restoration. Their website is www.timetested... Here is a list of accreditations and references. I personally reached out to the owners of the photos that I used and was given permission by them to use their photos. Some of the photos came from shutter stock.com and Flickr.com

Thanks for taking the time to make the video. Very nice and I really appreciated the history lesson. Maybe one day I'll run across such a gem. I actually have a Shapleigh Iron, found on a Stanley plane. I've used Citri-strip and it's very poor at removing paint and I commend you on you patience. Years back you could get strippers with Methylene Chloride which worked literally about 50 times faster. You'd brush it on; blink a few times and start peeling off 10 layers of paint. It was dangerous, however, but I digress. Your work is great and final product quite a beauty, both aesthetically and historically. Thanks again.

Thank you very much for the compliment. It does take patience to restore these particular tools. The citri strip does work well but it takes many coats with the old jappaning. That stuff is very tough

Boy this was a pleasure to watch come back to life. What was the primer used before the engine paint?

Thank you for the compliment and I'm glad you enjoyed watching the video. I used a general primer from rustoleum. Any good primer will work. I used a specific paint to match the old japanning.

That plane did not need any work! You could have just sharpend the iron and used it.

Great video. Glad to be a subscriber. What are your thoughts on flattening the sole without the frog installed?

thanks for the compliment. Glad you enjoyed the video. I working on adding some music to this one. To answer your question..there was a video by the Plane collector(I'll include a link) where he shows that it doesn't matter if the frog is installed or not. I personally have not had any issues with leaving the frog out when flattening. Hope this helps. Here is the link to that video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3Kyhquko85mmZo
