This Foster Bros 16” hog splitter was a lot of work but it came together beautifully! I’m so excited to be able to preserve this awesome piece.
Huge thanks to Brett C for trusting with this piece. I’m truly grateful!

For my household, is a hog splitter totally unreasonable? Yes. Undoubtedly. Do I still need one? YOU G-D RIGHT I DO!

When you were doing the handle and you said it'll turn amber, I pictured something way different. That handle is amazing. Probably the best I've ever seen.

I recommend trying that tape+super glue trick a little bit modified. First tape both surfaces and then apply super on one tape and super glue activator on the other and then press them together. Dries instantly and holds parts together extremely well. Won't leave any residue or rip wood when taken off.

Great video, good tip on saving the old handle for needed info. Nice finish on the handle, what was the strength of the Nitric Acid? If it is an old secret formula I will not ask you for it, just curious

The only real problem I see, is that you didn't send it to me. I have had a hog splitter blade for years, waiting on me to get myself into gear. That maple is gorgeous and I'm glad you left the character on the blade. I've seen too many people try to polish it up and just end up losing what markings are there. Great project and outcome.

When I use boiled linseed oil on my wood I rub for about a hour taking breaks and then apply the next day, I apply the linseed oil on the metal, wipe good, then hit with a torch, seals the metal and doesn’t rust.

it's sad really 40 years ago a good sized hog splitter could be found for 30 or 40 bucks now they start around 500 and one like yours can go for over 2000 bucks in good condition all just so some city boy can hang it on his wall . I lost mine out the back of my truck after a job breaking down a mess of wild hogs after a hunt it didn't fall out the bed it sprouted legs and ran off along with a tool box .
