@@rafaltruszkowski2751 yeah, it completely died down. It was good, but i was moving and put it on a bit too dark place in the new apartment so it died down. @truszko914 жыл бұрын
@@IcarianGreenWings if you're desperate, you can always dig into the soil with your 🖐️ and see what's up! Inspect the roots, see if any new shoots are coming up. If you are watering it daily, it might be too wet! You shouldn't water it until the top two inches of the soil are very dry. Also, make sure your pot has drainage. Otherwise your bottom of the pot will retain all that water, and the roots will rot in that underground pool.

Mint usually needs to be dormant once a year to grow well, cutting it back and leaving it somewhere cold for a few weeks should give it the dormancy it needs. Then bring it back to a warm location and it should grow well. Mint is usually dormant over winter so you might find it doesn't grow well again until spring.

@Gardeningat58N3 жыл бұрын
Mint usually goes dormant in cold weather so I would cut it back to the ground and allow it to become dormant over winter. If your growing it inside and it's warm enough you could try growing it over winter, but they don't usually do as well over winter with the low light levels. I would use a liquid feed that is high in nitrogen, a balanced liquid feed also works well. The high nitrogen levels encourage larger leaves.

If its died that quickly then it's probably due to lack of water. I would give it a good watering and see if it perks up, if it doesn't after two days then cut off all the dead and wait a couple of weeks to see if it regrows. Mint likes to be kept damp at all times, but don't have it sitting in water.

Thank you for the information and the video. I appreciate it. Are you using a grow light? If yes, what kind, name, watts. Thank you.
@Gardeningat58N7 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you found my video useful. Yes I'm using a small grow lamp, the one I'm using has a pure white light and fits in a usual desk lamp, the reason I use this kind is because the desk lamp concentrates the light in a small area, the white light is good for making time lapse videos as it doesn't have any colour tint, also the lamp is low power to save on my electric bills. I use a compact fluorescent bulb with a ses e14 fitment. The bulb is 20 watts and has a light temperature of 6500k which is simmilar to daylight. Here is a link to it www.amazon.co.uk/MiniSun-Energy-Saving-Daylight-Spiral/dp/B00CS38J82/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1505981628&sr=8-6&keywords=grow+bulb+cfl If you want to grow plants under grow lamps this bulb is ideal for individual small plants, and I have had great results with it as you can see in this video, but if you have large plants or a number of plants you would certainly need much more powerful bulbs with a higher lumen output.

For this video I used a cfl bulb rated at 20 watts, with a kelvin of 6500. Its powerful enough for a small plant, or a large shade loving plant. Also the 6500k gives a nice white light which is close to sunlight, but with a little more blue, this helps to discourage flowering and promotes leaf growth.

@@Gardeningat58N Thanks for this update ! Indeed, a 2x00 or 4000K seems to NOT work at all in my case, so I also ordered 6500K. But...fir st I have to deal with a falling off lower leaves as they become green and fall off - honestly I don't know what might be the problem. Did you also observe or faced the same problem ? Heat, light, humidity, water...? I can only guess now...
@Gardeningat58N4 жыл бұрын
@@adamwalter2573 That set up should work well for you. Dropping of lower leaves is usually over watering or lack of nitrogen, but usually the leaves turn yellow first, also mint is not easily over watered. Is it winter where you are? If so the mint might need a dormant period as it usually dies back to the ground over winter. Most types of mint need a few months of winter rest where the temperatures are close to freezing, it will then regrow in spring. If it doesn't get a rest period once a year the mint will slowly die.
@adamwalter25734 жыл бұрын
@@Gardeningat58N Dormant period...my plan was to dring a mint tea at least few days during winter, so despite 12C outside, I wish to grow them indoors. Today I checked and the soil PH is about 5.5-6.0, 21^C and air has ~75% humidity. Still, no reasonable growth. The plants I took from my garden, but since this is my first try I MIGHT have damaged its roots - at least this is what I read on the internet (=falling off leaves, poor growth). Today I ordered few meters of diodes 5050 with red and blue light (460 and 650nm, 6500k) and will see whether it's not related to a lack of "power form the light". Now I'm using 4000k leds and I "suspect" the light level is not enough. So, two things to check - take newer roots and increase light. Oh, I also planted a small amout of cress to se how fast it goes up. During the summer ot goes up like a crazy, but now with those 4000k leds it...well, it's alive, goes up, but very slowly, despite having 75% air humidity, so I suspect not a lack of dormant period, but..."light issue" :) What do you think ?

Make sure it's kept damp at all time, mint likes damp soil and should never be allowed to dry out. It won't need watered very often when you first cut it back as there won't be many leaves to evaporate the water, but it will get thirstier the bigger it gets.
