I just washed the old wood bowl that once belonged to my granny. She passed in 1982 but always kept her flour in it with along with a can which she used as a biscuit cutter and covered it with the metal top from a cooking pot. I can clearly remember her pulling the wood bowl out onto the counter to begin making her biscuits. Such great memories. I hope I can give it a shine as you did to the frankenbowl. It was gorgeous.

Well, that was brilliantly done and you are one funny guy to watch! Frankenbowl to heirloom bowl. That will live on thanks to your loving care. Now, to work on my salad bowl..... Thanks for the great tips like using the sawdust as wood filler.

Thanks for poppin by Lois, glad I could help :) sawdust, glue as woodfiller.... smaller cracks more fluid mass (more glue), bigger holes more sawdust (cockie dough).

Very nice! Was that first coat at 10 minutes a sanding filler or some kind of wax?
@MartinWoodStudios3 жыл бұрын
It was a foodgrade oilwax. It looked as if it did not penetrate the wood as well as I thought it would, so I went for the other one. Should have reversed the order in hindsight.

Great job on that masterpiece ! Wondering whats the brown material you used with the white glue? Because i have a very old one (~130yo) but with a bigger hole. Thank you

It's sawdust from the sanding. It is how you make your own wood filler with the closest resemblance to the item you are working on. Best of luck!

What oil products do you use? What kind of oils specifically? Thank you, your project is just what I was looking for.
@MartinWoodStudios2 жыл бұрын
yeah, you won't get the products I use in your country and it's not important that you do. It all depends on your use of the bowl. Here are some links for oil and wax... remember x2 oil (dry inbetween) and then apply wax (the buff the wax). Hi a friend gifted me with a large bowl that appears to have been carved from one piece of wood, it is very heavy and large, but is water stained and discoloured in few places, and has paint splatters as well. I would like to restore it, do you have any advise where to start? Thank you 😊

I have a similar project to do. I want to use my giant wood bowl for food. Salads, bread making etc. What food-safe oil and/or wax do you recommend? Thank you from California.
@MartinWoodStudios2 жыл бұрын
I would be super careful and go for oils I could eat. Coconut oil or something... Beeswax... you could check out this I found: www.amazon.com/Natural-Beeswax-Wood-Conditioner-Polish/dp/B00GGPKRZ6 - I don't know this product but looks good. Probably have to apply it more often than other "non-edible" oil/wax.

Hi, I just came across your video today when I was looking for a video about restore fruit bowl. What were the two products you put on the bowl in the end? Are they a product that food can be placed on to?

What kind of oil or wax did you use?
@MartinWoodStudios2 жыл бұрын
First I tried a random foodgrade combined oilwax. When I saw the wood did not take it very well I used a tungtree oil and a woodwax from chestnut (company).
