You left a key part out! Not many people know this! Did you notice after the plastic cools it gets dull again? When you get the plastic good and shiny immediately pour water over it and it will stay that way!! See in the video where the torch is getting that plastic really shiny?? I have done this but my method involved sanding off the old oxidation first because all your doing is melting the old oxidation into the fresh plastic underneath. The best method is to sand it first. Work with a lower grit then work with a much higher grit then use the torch method. I used the sanding method, Scotchbrite, polish and torch method and that gave me a true factory finish with no hazing or splotchiness.
@rdizzo13136 жыл бұрын
Torching it after the sanding and polishing it brings it to a mirror factory finish. You’re welcome!

i presume its just to melt the plastics to get the shine back ?
@ripptydevibes25816 жыл бұрын
Heat gun is not the way to go, since it is slower you run higher risk of melting something or multiple things. Because the heat gun takes longer, you actually penetrate the plastic deeper and can weaken the plastic using heat gun. A hot torch is the quickest and safest method that does no damage if done swiftly.

Hi Shane, to be honest i didn't really think it through, by the time i was halfway done with the tank, only then had i realized that there was still fuel left in it. but i am by no means the expert. i would say draining it and let it sit open for a few hours for the vapor to dissipate should do the trick.

Hi ANTON MUNGER, was wondering if this technique will work on my SKI BOOTS
@Anton_Munger7 жыл бұрын
Hi, i have no idea. never seen ski boots in my live. don't know what plastic they made of. the best method to restore plastic is the hard way, sand it down starting with 400 and work your way up to 1000. then once you have the desired finish you can give it a coat of silicone plastic care products. you can try the heat method, grab a cigarette lighter and test a small area. if it looks like the plastic gets wet your golden.

@ripptydevibes25816 жыл бұрын
It does not crack or weaken the plastic. This is high density flexible plastic that you are merely just kissing with a flame. If you had bad results then you did it wrong. This is a long term fix that will give you another 10yrs of sheen if you keep it waxed.
