Is there any no abrasive alternative to the 0000 steel wool your using? Thinking about my Honda’s red plastic with the stickers on it and how any grit of abrasion would ruin the stickers.

Wet sand and polish like a real man. This just makes it dull 🤣

Thanks for sharing. Here’s a tip that I’ve been using for years. SOS pads the kind with soap in-bedded in them. Scrub in a tub of water until clean. Then heat them up with a propane torch or heat gun then dowse them with water immediately. The result will be shiny new looking plastics.

just get your buffer high-speed buffer or something of that sort get you some micro finishing compound go ahead and take the oxidation off in seconds and buff that thing and Shine the actual plastic . then go ahead and do the same thing with some wax afterwards it look like it came out of a showroom simple or you can use a DA sander with 220 on it either way

Using steel wool mars the surface "nubs" of the textured finish on the plastic. Making it less shiny. I use a microfiber towel....it gets the same result and retains the natural surface texture.

Guy you are suppose to press down as you turn the lid on the containers. Same as with a pill bottle.

Sometimes they put those caps on real tight, it also looks like some dried residue on the threads,.... and those safety caps don't have much gripping power.

That linseed oil sometimes doesn't mix with thinner after we combine it and shake it, any sugestion sir?
@toptiergarage73784 жыл бұрын
Is it Boiled linseed oil. That's very important. Just regular linseed oil won't work.

Wont the steel wool leave scratches?
@toptiergarage73783 жыл бұрын
Not if you use 0000 ultra fine steel wool. Any other type will.

i wish you had a side by side picture of after one treatment compared to after 3...it seems the same frome your video and you never mentioned after 3 looked much better than after one.... its hard to tell from video verses being there seeing it...thanks
@toptiergarage73783 жыл бұрын
After 3 was much better. Took almost all of the embedded dirt and minor superficial scratches out. I will be posting a video of the complete rack restoration and you can see the difference compared to my video when I first got it

@@toptiergarage7378 i just did my truck and car i just bought... just used a cotton rag and rubbed...my truck is 20 years old outside in sw florida its entire life and all the rubber and plastic looks new,,,amazing i wonder how long it will last and if water washes it off... ??? even if its a month its a huge win... what i think happens the rubber and plastic soaks it up like a sponge... since rubber and plastic are oil based products..

@roadstar499 Glad it could work for you. Mine has been holding up for a while now. I would assume if you do it once a year it will stay looking brand new.

Put a coat of transmission fluid on the plastic, let sit an hour or so then wipe off with a clean rag. works great and will last up to a year.
