I have a similar set. In a pinch they can save the day but nothing is better than new hardware. At my last job of 15 yrs we NEVER reused a fastener of any sort. The deal was if you can pack a 5 gal bucket out the door it was yours. When in logging it just didn't pay to reuse them. Everyone was torqued once. Once stretched they were deemed unusable weather it was 1/4 in or 1,1/2. It was more of an insurance issue than anything else. Cleaning and rethreading was expensive as well. Nice set bud. Good post.

Thanks for explaining how to use the kit. I wish you would have shown to fix a cross threaded situation.

Kevin, this tool is also great for removing paint and powder coating from captive nuts, and threaded holes in frames and such.

Folks may want to wire brush the bolt, especially its threads, before using the kit. Too, make sure to lubricate. Use oil, not a product like WD40. When you encounter a part of the bolt that's badly damaged go back and forth a little and then continue. I prefer to turn the bolt by hand as to feel where the problems are. This being said, I use it with fairly pricey period hardware so getting a perfect result from a badly screwed up bolt has a value. Your situation may be different. Still, use oil during the process. Good luck.

@@Robinson-Homestead We're too late in 2022, amazon; as usual, has replaced this set that has the "Made in USA" sticker and information sheet in the lid with "ToolTool" brand chineseium crap.

I have a bolt hole that won't take the bolt anymore, do you think I should use this to try to repair it instead of a tap? I was gonna do it with a tap, but I just realized this exist, so not sure anymore...
