What kind of tape would you use for the joint lines? I have to imagine that it should be rather thin. And can you offer any tips as to how the "rocks" & "bricks" are textured?

The Brick border was textured using a hand trowel just like the rest of the driveway surface. The joint lines are not filled in. The color for the joint lines comes from the first coat of SM Professional grade.

For a base coat, one 60 lb. bag should cover between 150 and 300 square feet. Texture coats should run at between 150 and 200 square feet. All of this depends on concrete porosity, conditions, and application technique.

hi, can this process work on a newly poured concrete that's joined to an existing patterned driveway to make it look uniform?
@SolomonColors8 жыл бұрын
It can! Make sure to wait at least 28 days for the new concrete to fully cure before placing the new overlay material. You won't be able to guarantee an exact color match between the old and new pattern work, but you can get close if you use the same materials and application methods. Have your contractor make a sample to make sure before work starts.
@edc.808210 жыл бұрын
Can this process be used for refinishing an in-ground tiled/concrete pool deck in Florida? The old deck is a textured tile (12/12 inch) laid over cement. It has some cracks and this random stone pattern looks like it might work. Also the driveway in the front of the house has several stress cracks too. Thinking that this might take care of both issues vs replacement of slabs and tile. Thanks!
@SolomonColors10 жыл бұрын
We recommend removing the tiles and properly cleaning the concrete before adding a micro-topping. Take a look at our surface preparation videos on KZbin for more information.

As far as surface prep, do you not need to grind the concrete? E etch is good enough? The stuff I use needs at least a csp of 2. What rating is the e etch? Thanks
@SolomonColors8 жыл бұрын
To consistently get a CSP 2, grinding or shotblasting may be required. E-Etch is a mild cleaner/degreaser and etcher. E-etch will only enhance an existing profile like the one on this old driveway unless multiple applications are used which can become cost prohibitive. As with any surface preparation, the slab and the product requirements will need to be reviewed to determine what method(s) will be required to properly profile and clean the slab. Check out www.icri.org and consider purchasing their manual on selecting surface preparation methods as this is an excellent resource.

It came out beautiful. However, why didn't you show the epoxy being put in? Also, I bet it would've been cheaper to pour new concrete.
@SolomonColors6 жыл бұрын
We don't offer an epoxy product for that application, so we didn't want to provide information that might conflict with the application techniques suggested for your preferred epoxy. Generally speaking, repair is cheaper than replacing. Beyond cost, however, resurfacing has the benefit of being low impact - no need to excavate, haul out, or tear up the yard with Bobcats and ready mix trucks.

I DO THIS PROFESSIONALLY and have a way better application. First, go to harbor freight and buy a 4 inch handheld tile saw for $40. Link: www.harborfreight.com/4-in-handheld-dry-cut-tile-saw-62296.html Next go to www.ediamondtools.com/products/crack-chaser-blades and buy a 4" x 1/2 non threaded blade. Set the deck height to cut a perfect 1 inch deep grove and straighten out the cracks. For filler, forget expensive $100 gallon epoxy, instead use tile grout rated for immersion (swimming pools and showers). Ardex FL is the ultimate and using color charts you can match old, new, even colored concrete. Next, fill the cracks with grout, wait 30 mins, then sponge smooth. This eliminated regrinding you have to do with epoxy. 5 gallons of epoxy filler costs $500 5 gallons of grout costs $39.00 and doesn't have to be reground after cure. When you use grout for crack filler you are doing the exact same thing when you grout a ceramic tile. It will be stronger and adhere better to cement than any other crack filler in the world. Regarding cleaning, instead of a straight wand that cleans only 2 inch wide and requires a ton of arm movement, a spinner head that cleans 12 inch wide works WAY BETTER. Amazon has them for $59 and your partner can use a leaf blower to push the dirty water away. www.amazon.com/SIMPSON-80165-Universal-Scrubber-Pressure/dp/B07H5BJ3VR/ref=asc_df_B07H5BJ3VR/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312134668019&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=3947361312397405302&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9019691&hvtargid=pla-635693761422&psc=1 For chemical, pre spray with heavy duty floor wax stripper and bleach mixed 1-1from the home center. . Apply heavy saturation with a 2 gallon pump up sprayer, wait 30 mins then power wash with spinner. Demo video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJybXmRoqbWjmMk Also regarding thin skin coats of any kind, they're usually only good for 3-5 years, stained finishes are are ideal for sidewalks and patios but require power washing followed by expensive sealers ($100 gallon with 300 sq ft coverage every 2 years and are slightly slippery, rated for foot traffic BUT NOT CAR TRAFFIC. salt from tires will strip and damage the finish. Very high maintenance costs. Good luck redoing that driveway every few years. Talk about red tape...

This is exactly what I need to-do around my pool and they sell your product in Montreal...this is really good. But I have a few questions. 1 - Was the first coat applied with a squeegee? 2 - How sure is it I will see the crack repairs through the first coat? This is very important. If I lose sight of the cracks, I’m @#$#. 3 - Looks like you’re using typical masking tape (paper). How long - exactly - do I wait to remove the tape and what is the chance of it tearing and I lose the joint under the cement coat? Really need you replies as I want to do this for sure....pls help.
@SolomonColors10 жыл бұрын
1-Squeegee or trowel 2-As long as you V-groove the crack once it has been repaired, the differential curing will show a darker material where the crack is located. 3. Our Design Tapes are fiber reinforced and will not disintegrate shed fiber hairs or tare when it's time to pull the tape after the Micro-Topping is dry. Check out our video on design tape at Design Tape for Decorative Concrete Overlays
@lpgjg10 жыл бұрын
SolomonColors Thanks for clarifying about the fiber reinforced tape, it will obviously be much stronger than standard masking tape. Just one more clarification, when you say remove when the micro Topping is dry, do you mean the next day or like hours later in the same day when you can walk on it lightly? Still not convinced I will see the crack repairs after the first coat so I am considering just doing the one final coat after the crack repairs. Since I will stain everything in the end, I’m not too concerned about the grout line colors at this stage. Tks again
