Retirement is now more difficult than it was in the past. I've been saving for a long time instead of investing, and right now I only have about $200K. considering all the inflation, i'm thinking of investing in stocks, i dont just have idea on market strategies.

I used to think every investor went broke during recessions, meanwhile some make millions. I also thought everybody went out of business during the Great Depression, but some went into business. Bottom line, there's always depression for some, and profit for others, it all starts from having the right mindset. That said, I've set asides $250k to invest for future, unfortunately l'm a complete noob.

True, A lot of folks downplay the role of professionals until being burnt by their own emotions. I remember couple summers back, after my lengthy divorce, I needed a good boost to help my business stay afloat, hence I researched for license advisors and came across someone of due diligence, helped a lot to grow my reserve notwithstanding inflation, from $275k to approx. $850k so far.

This is the fourth video I've watched of yours so far and it really makes me reconsider my self worth, I'm in my late twenties and I haven't a lot to show for it but I know I've accumulated skills and knowledge over time and I haven't been using what I've learned to my advantage. Already I'm starting to rethink my life choices that have led me to this stage of life and how I can turn it around without slaving away (12 hour shifts, 6 days a week) in some job I don't have any passion for whatsoever. The process to success isn't rocket science as I've been led to believe, dream jobs do exist you just need to make the effort to market yourself. Really appreciate the advice thus far, what you're doing is an inspiration and quite similar to how I'd like to help others in the future as well.

40 now, and everything is paid for. Fortunately, I had a college economics teacher who taught me a lesson when I was 18 years old. That lesson was: you can't buy something else for every purchase you make. Having multiple sources of income is prudent, as is living within your means. I have a 13-year-old vehicle because it is all I need, I like it, and I can do whatever I want with it. My net worth is $4 million, and I can pay my bills without stress, but I don't live like I have that. I have no complaints.

I fully agree, I'm 56 years old and recently retired with approximately 1.2 million in outside retirement funds, no debt, and very few dollars in retirement funds in comparison to my portfolio balance over the last three years. To be honest, the financial advisor's role can only be ignored, not dismissed. Therefore do your research to get a reputable one and that should be any individuals main route into the market.

I don't necessarily want to retire "early". I just want to be in a place where I CAN retire early if I want to. By the time I'm in my 50's I'd like to be at a place where I can just walk off the job if I get fed up enough. I'm 26 with about 200k in investments already. I invest around 1/3 of my gross income. With average returns I should have a few million by then which should be plenty. My biggest concern is maintaining health insurance until Medicare kicks in at 62 (United States).

At 26 I'd say your well on your way unless you plan to pay for a house in cash or something. You could probably ease off saving slightly in order to get a mortgage if your not already on one at this point just to cut future costs and if you end up moving in the meantime you could rent out. Not financial advice

You are very correct. As a generation Z member, my main purpose for now is achieving financial security.Once I reach financial security I will start thinking about financial freedom. But for now, it is prioritized enough for me to consider thinking about financial freedom as a waste of time. Besides I find the concept of financial freedom very confusing. You can have enough money to live unemployed. But it doesn't make sense to be a millionaire and live like an employee with 3500$ per month salary. That's why I think financial freedom costs 115.2M $. Cuz one month in a resort in Maldives costs 5K $ to 15K $ and that's only booking in a resort and food and tours in Maldives. Take the highest price 15K and double it cuz you will need money for health care and buying electronics and so on. It becomes 30K per month per person. For a family of 4, father mother and 2 kids it is 120 K per month which is 115.2M per 80 years. This doesn't mean to immigrate to Maldives but someone with such wealth can live like a tourist in a resort in Maldives anywhere in the world and in every condition or crisis which means highly secure form of financial freedom

Get an online based job from a first world country and live in a developing country. Plough as much as you can into available pension schemes and get the tax topping up your funds. Live frugally. After about 5-10 years, you should have a nice little nest egg. That's about as good as you can do.

@1871aaron thanks for your reply. To get the tax topping up your funds, the third world country you're tax resident in would have to offer such a scheme. Do you happen to know of any? And if you move back to your home country at retirement would you lose those benefits.

I’m not sure that retirement would do me any good 🤔 I currently don’t work full time as my work is to tough but it’s great for meeting & communicating with other people and keeping the thingy in my head working properly 🤔😝😂

I’ve been diligently working, saving and contributing towards early retirement and financial freedom, but since covid outbreak, the economy so far has caused my portfolio to underperform, do I keep contributing to my 401k or look at alternative sectors to meet my goals?

Remember to factor in taxes for the rule of 300. It likely doesn't matter if you live in a tax free state and you're withdrawing a small amount each year (since long term cap gains are tax free up to small amounts [assuming all your stocks are invested in a taxable brokerage]), but if you're in a state that taxes long term cap gains or you've got boatloads of money invested and have huge monthly expenses, you're going to have large withdrawals, which means you're likely paying taxes on the cap gains on the sale of stock, so having 300x your monthly expenses won't be enough. Just sharing extra info 👍

With markets tumbling, inflation soaring, the Fed imposing large interest-rate hike, while treasury yields are rising rapidly-which means more red ink for portfolios this quarter. How can I profit from the current volatile market, I'm still at a crossroads deciding if to liquidate my $125k bond/stocck portfolio

The “Rule of 300” with some advanced planning can easily become “Rule of 150”. The 4% safe withdrawal rate can be doubled with an adequate volatility buffer built on actuarial calculation rather than market risk.
