PART 4 of 10. In this video of my how to reupholster a wingback chair series, I show you how to tie 8-way hand tied springs together, including how to sew the springs to the webbing. Yes, this wingback chair makeover is a lot of work, but it's rewarding seeing it come together!
I am taking an upholstery class and sharing with you the upholstery tips and tricks I am learning in the class. Following along as I transform this $60 wingback chair that I got from the thrift store. It will be gorgeous by the time I am done! :)
A big THANKS to G Street Fabrics upholstery instructor for allowing me to film and document this process. I appreciate it!

Just watching this now in 2024 and I must say this tutorial is soooo awesome! So completely extensive and very detailed. No other video I’ve watched is as skilfully informative as this…thank you for posting this project in several parts. I find myself immersed in the whole process not feeling bored or lost in each step. Both the instructor and you, the student, just worked superbly in sync. Every step was explained very well. The questions you’ve asked would have been the questions I would have asked, if I was physically there. I also like that you reiterate the instructions to further clear the need for that step… It’s as if I myself, am actually there with you both learning in that workshop!!! Amazing tutorial…you are one brave lady… please show us more of these upholstery projects. Different styled chairs, sofas, settees, ottomans perhaps? Thank you!!! 🙏🏻

I have a wing-back chair that has been sitting in my garage for about 10 years! I have removed the fabric from the frame and at one time I had attempted to reupholster it. I am so excited that I found your videos! Here's hoping I'll be up to the task come springtime! I'd really like to get that chair and it's matching ottoman recovered.

You can do it! It's daunting, I know, but just think--if you can do this chair, you can probably reupholster anything! That's how I look at it. Good luck, and I"m glad these videos are helping you!

Thank you so much for this valuable information! I know how to do basic upholstery ie. arm chairs and stools, but was terrified of working on anything with springs, webbing, tufting, that metal thing for curves. After these series of videos I think ill be able to build an arm chair or love seat from scratch ( i have some basic carpentry skills) AND upholster it! Thank you for taking the time to make these :)

Yeah, we were talking about that in class the other day! I had said that it would be cool to do this and the instructor said that it's often done, maybe right at the end before you put the dust cover on the bottom. But I like the idea of hiding it deeper into the crevices of the chair, near the springs, although I guess that would probably get into the way of the springs. So yeah, maybe under the dust cover! Pictures, fabric, a letter--oh my!

couldn't you use a large crochet hook to get that twine in those tight spaces? I'm curious as to how much fabric you end up getting for this chair.
@ThriftDiving
@ThriftDiving 6 жыл бұрын
Hmmm....I don't know. I have never used a crochet hook so I don't know how that would work. Seems like the professionals use the curved upholstery needles.
@leslieheisner3508
@leslieheisner3508 6 жыл бұрын
I was going to suggest that too for tight spots or towards the end when trying to get fingers through twine and spring makes it very difficult. If you (or a viewer) has a larger crochet hook lying around, might be a good fix for that problem. Wouldn’t hurt to try.

Repairing the webbing and springs is something I refuse to do. Maybe a small chair. I have had some old chairs which needed a full repair. Nevertheless it works as it is. Once the new fabric is on you'll never notice the old webbing and burlap etc.
